Yeah she hide her real name on purpose.
In the first timeline, Ninger go to the dark forest and trade her beauty for strength. She didn't think it was a big deal until she see herself.
She loose her memory too and didn't know how to go out, where she come from and even the reason she here.
When she meet Nie Li she remember him and some of her past, that make her so happy but she was ashamed to be ugly. So she hide her face, come up with un new name on the spot and stay with him.

She learn about Glory City and decide to protect Nie Li as a fellow comrade but remember him little, how he like her beauty and never tell him the truth because she didn't want to soiled the only one person she know with her current self.

Nope she didn't trade beauty for strength. She was constatly being tormented in that forest and the only reason she survived was because her grandfather sealed one of the pages of the book Nie Li is hunting into a birthmark on her back saying she might need it one day. Since that forest was kind of out of the Tiny world it didn't have its limitations and she could grow beyond legend realm.
