I read the novel

while Ying Yueru is like an ethereal fairy. Also Ying Yueru didn't try to onesidedly approach one of his firends and try to get close while they were separated.

From Xiao Yu's point of view, Ying Yueru approached Nie Li for no reason. And "she's easier on the eyes" isn't exactly a good reason to be so trusting.

@AlmondMagnum MC had all the reason to be a distrusting asshole cause he didn't know who Xiao Yu is or what were his intentions, otherwise he could risk his and his friend's lives. No harm in being too careful when other lives are in your hands. On the other hand he knew perfectly well who Ying Yueru is and how she rolls. There is 0 reasons to be caution towards her.
