I mean yes probably. He is likely the only guy even close to their age in the town. Small towns like that have very few of that age range do to them moving to cities to find work. Add in that he has a large amount of land and stable work and income to any who like the country life more he would be very appealing. Sure he is quite, but that's not really a bad thing, its not like he isn't friendly and in a small town like that everyone knows each other, so even if he doesn't go out to socialize they would still know him rather well.

Eh, chopping wood with an axe and fighting with them are completely different from each other. If you try to chop a tree like you would use an axe as a Weapon, you would have a bad time. And generally speaking they probably are different axes with different shapes to their heads. Not great analogy.

A knife on the other hand, is a way more universal tool. One that should be common in isekai world and generally most cultures period utilize(I cannot think of any culture that does not utilize a knife at all). Even if she hasn't used a knife herself she has probably seen someone somewhere use a knife. Even the basic principle of using a knife is the same as a sword and could get you by. The grip you use to cut, as well as the sawing or chop motion used in cooking, is more about efficiency and ease of use, than necessity.

So yeah, kinda dumb to make her that clueless. The correction scene could've just been about showing her the optimal way.

You're talking about it in the other direction, though. Chopping wood is far simpler than fighting with an axe, so a woodchopper wouldn't necessarily make for a good fighter, however an axe fighter knows how to swing an axe, which is what you need to know for chopping wood. Speaking as someone who's chopped quite a bit of wood, and seen others do it.

But yeah, a wood chopping axe is a bad weapon. Sure, it can hit hard, but it's terribly clumsy, while a battle axe is relatively nimble. Likewise, some battle axes can chop wood passably, but many are quite bad at it.

i think you lot are overestimating how small the town is. didn't the manga start by saying it was a small town of "just 30 000 people"?

I am simplifying not overestimating how small. Farming towns tend to be much older populations in general. Most of the young men move to the cities to find work, young women tend to as well but don't tend to do so as quickly. This results in there being a skewed gender ratio for that age range. Yes he isn't the only man his age, but there is a shortage of men of his age that the women can chose from, add in that he is one of very few who is stable and for sure not going to move away, he would be a top pick for any girl who doesn't want to move from her hometown.
30,000 may seem like a lot, but for instance the US census bureau defines a small town as a population between 25,000 and 50,000. There are a lot of ratios that bring that bring down what percent of that number are young folk. Farm towns have pretty much a population cap as there is only so much land available to farm, as well as only so much demand for produce. Look up average farmer ages, you'll find answers like only 11% are 20-30 and a whopping 67% is over 40. This leaves very little job options for kids other than moving away. So yeah he is one of very few options available.
