I enjoy the pacing better in this chapter than the originals. While I appreciate the mirrored scenarios describing the differences over a year of social rehabilitation, the story flows better this way for a longer form manga. Plus, we get a little more backstory framing the entire manga premise. Nice.

Maybe its because Ive consumed too much trash recently but the mfing "beautiful woman but actually considered ugly because of 'so and so'" trope pisses me off.

Except you're entirely off-base? Your argument is about the trope of "FMC is ugly except to the MC", but that's not even what Louise even mentions. Literally, she tells the MC that the other nobles call Alba "A savage woman", "Damaged goods", "Just a pawn". So, I'm basing this entirely off this particular English translation (so it might be wrong, given the original), but none of these descriptions have anything to do with Alba's beauty. (And of course, it precludes anyone saying that the FMC is ugly.)

A "savage woman"? Alba is cutthroat and will mercilessly maim you regardless of what you do. "Cutthroat" has nothing to do with physical appearance. She's simply a mercilessly capable knight who will slaughter you if that is what she intends or needs to do.

Alba is "damaged goods"? It's already been established that she's one of the strongest fighters in the knight corps. Any "damage" is unlikely to be physical, given her capabilities. Her "damage" is either because she's been sexually tainted (EXTREMELY unlikely given her physical capabilities), or because she's not seen as a woman who is capable of traditional "womanly" actions, such as homemaking and baby rearing. Given her capablities, it's likely the latter. This insult is about her status as an "incapable child-rearing woman" and not as a "whore who can't keep her legs closed", or even as a "fighter who has been mortally wounded". Her "damage" is that she can't supposedly fulfill her only "role" as a woman in this society.

She's "Just a pawn"? This is an insult to her capabilities and mindset, stating that she's unable to think for herself, and simply performs orders and acts based on what she's been presented. This is somewhat shown in this chapter: Without anything else to do in the house, she appoints herself as the front guard, which is probably something she had to do multiple times as a knight. She doesn't know what to do or think for herself, so she defaults to her training. And a pawn will only move to the predetermined positions given their limitations and orders. Even so, this still gives her agency, but doesn't have anything to do with her physical appearance.

Ok so well that's a lot of text ill go reread the actual chapter because I forgot what I was complaining about in the first place.

Well yea I guess you're right. I don't really have a response because I kinda turned my brain off after reading:
Calling Alba beautiful, you're the first person to ever say that.
Mostly because this exact type of sentence usually leads into the dumbass trope I see too often so yea, you're correct. I literally can't say anything else about this scene because your interpretation of the scene is the same as mine after I actually reread the chapter and read your full comment.

What now.

Well I went ahead and reread the other chapters, this chapter itself its more well structured than the previous ones without the constant time jumps back and forth each chapter. Although I don't think I enjoy this as much as I could, it feels weird that the Carlo is the only one, the only one who treated Alba with any amount of human decency, nevermind the nobles not even her own knight's order? Idk how to explain it maybe it just feels like some really weird setup, unless its a whole thing where she's so strong she's seen as a monster by everyone around her then I guess it works? But that hasn't been too established from what I've seen imo. Eh, well, there were some hints to it in chapter 3.

Ignoring that this series is decent. Although I'm mostly here to read for the fluff regardless. So the story isn't as much of a concern for me.
Though because of your comment I ended up actually sitting down and focused in on reading the dialogue and scenes.

Two walls of texts in the comments now sorry. :haa: :shamihuh:

Someone comment something different please.
