It was already known, but Taniko was raised and care for by Galllion's past self before the villagers tricked Ren into slaying him. Her cold shoulder to him was his neglect to fully understand what was going on then! Killing her adoptive father and worse, CONVINCED by the villagers that they would "care" for Taniko. Only too late did Ren learn the Dragon was never a threat and he just handed a potential SLAVE to a bunch of greedy POS! Any consolation, when he became a Zombie Dragon, the Village was destroyed so their greed (He was also the reason Naofumi has the Wrath Shield having fought him early on, Naofumi even brought it up when condemning the other three heroes for not looking deep into what they were doing (Ren not properly burying the Dragon)

Otherwise can't WAIT for Itsuki's arc next! Unlike Ren, he's going to be abit more AGGRESSIVE and BACKED (Also Malty/Bitch is more active coming up)

Yeah she was. Her cold shoulder to Ren is because of his short sightliness in regards to him. Remember when Naofumi got the Wrath Shield from the Dragon! Ren was SUPER naive to the greed of the Villagers back then, what he forgot was that Taniko WAS there and witness him killing her adoptive father, worse the Villagers KNEW she'd fetch a high price on the slave market (They were SUPER greedy, thankfully the Dragon Zombie slaughtered their village AND them) so they tricked Ren into leaving her with them and they'd "take care of her" and well you know the rest!

As you already saw with Ren, he's too TRUSTING, especially of those he SHOULD know better with (Malty/Bitch) and it made him easy to fool! Itsuki's issue was kiss asses can trick him by playing at his pride, but Ren's twisted version of Chivalry causes him to mistakingly fall for the DECEIT of the "Weak" (Scumbags who will "SPIN" a tale to get you to do the dirty work) and it caused all of Taniko's trouble's till Naofumi

I said it above, but yeah the Dragon or better yet "it's old incarnation" had adopted Taniko and raised her! She was there when Ren/Sword Hero killed him (Early arc when Ren and the other two were acting as idiots and wrecking havoc unwittingly)

Ren was tricked (or better he didn't THINK) by the local villagers who are no more because the Dragon Zombie destroy them, this is what lead to Naofumi fighting him and his grudge leading to Naofumi unlocking the Wrath Shield as his death was UNFAIR as Naofumi's early treatment! Taniko was the cause of that by the way, largely him dying unable to PROTECT HER!

Ren foolishly assumed Taniko was being held CAPTIVE by the Dragon and "he rescued her" that he IGNORANTLY handed her over to the "eager Villagers" who "claimed" they'd "look out for her!" When as you know, they SOLD HER for more money! Hence they paid for thier greed! Unlike in the WN where Ren made the call to leave it's corpse, this chapter illustrated that it wasn't his FAULT the Dragon Zombie HAPPENED (Other then killing him unwittingly) but the greedy villagers wanting to take advantage of ADVENTURERS coming and picking the place and corpse clean so they get even MORE riches!

Ren forgot about her as he was still ignorantly believing she was "living in comfort", but well, "you don't forget the man who MURDERED your father right in front of you and then handed you over to assholes who then SOLD YOU!" At least Ren quickly owns up to it once he fully remembers as out of the three idiots. He was the least terrible! Itsuki and Motoyasu were neck and neck in how BAD they were, though if you'll believe me, ITSUKI/BOW HERO was actually the WORST "without" Malty/Bitch involvement no less LOL (Even the Spin-off Reprise where Motoyasu goes peggy sue and sides with Naofumi from the start has her just move on to Itsuki early on instead of Motoyasu). Though fairness is all three where just idiots who didn't FULLY take things as SERIOUS as they should have till the Sprit Turtle arc became a RUDE awakening (and Rishia assessment of him EARLY ON was spot on, he DID start with good intentions, he was just an example of "what happens when the bullied oppress kid gets power and status INSTANTLY in another world!" You get a "Prideful fool who can EASILY be manipulated if his ego is stroked)

.......Dude, all that shit PASSED already (The Dragon Zombie was how Naofumi unlocked the Wrath Shield before the first fight with Glass/Fan Girl, And Taniko's "origin" is about to or I believe was already told along with the fate of those "villagers way back!" It was when Naofumi called the three out early on for their brash behavior which he had to clean up! And Itsuki is next as Naofumi has already been tasked with getting the three back, he has no choice because HE will suffer if any of the three die, Motoyasu is moving about, but Itsuki is still unaccounted for)

All that shit as said PASSED already, so this isn't Novel or anything! Ren forgot Taniko because he had been naive and trusted the villagers in regards to Galeon (or Galeon's Last Life). The group were aware Taniko got along with the little guy, it's that they didn't know it was because she had a PAST with his previous incarnation as Dragons reincarnate like Phoenix when they die. His Soul just never had peace, it's why Naofumi has WRATH, the RAGE was absorbed into his shield and resonated. The Sin Series respond to the Hero Weapon Wielders mental state if they reach a certain MIND SET involved! Naofumi was wrath because of all the bullying, oppression and bad behavior done on him simply for being the Shield Hero. Motoyasu was Lust due to his MASS denial of what Melty did to him, which was what she did to Naofumi. I won't say Itsuki's because "you said no spoilers"

And Ren already was shown which is GREEDY, referring to his DESIRE for power due to his guilt at his old party dying because he felt he didn't. They have NEGATIVE consequences for using them. Naofumi takes GREATER damage, Motoyasu lost his sanity, Ren LOSES XP and Levels! Itsuki, well, have fun with him

who is taniko?

Tani is Japanese for vally, ko is a Japanese add on meaning girl so Taniko is Valley Girl, which is Naofumi's nick name Wyndia (the girl who call the dragon father), this is base on an old anime "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind" where there a character who speaks with beast similar to what Wyndia does
