I think she is meant to represent a specific kind of "playgirl"
Oh, yes. She totally represents this type of archetype. She's also probably the most "openly gay" character of the cast, and for me it's always super fun seeing which characters are more outward with their sexuality and which ones are more closeted about it. Rindo is a very no-fucks-given character and there is something I appreciate about that, especially in a story that already deals with the taboo of falling in love with a cousin (ofc, all GL deals with taboo in some sense, but very few characters are actually like "I got dumped and I'm gay for you. Can I hit?").
Also, completely, 100%, fully unbiased, but I do think Mio has red-hair
If she ends up not being red-haired, just pull a Matt from Death Note and pretend she is. All power to you:salute:.

I think she is meant to represent a specific kind of "playgirl" who is trying to cope with something else by flirting and poking at others, especially because she says she got dumped again, implying something similar might have happened in the past.

There's also the question of how much each of these ancillary characters will be fleshed out within the narrative, and whether any hypothetical added depth has a plot-specific purpose. So it could be that we get a "reason" for why she is the way she is, or it's just that she's open and honest (to the point of near-shameless) about how she interacts with others, particularly those she may or may not be interested in.
Which is why, while I can say that at first blush I'm not enamored with her (and to re-reiterate, for entirely personal reasons), I do look forward to seeing what she brings to the story, and whether she has intentional relevance to the narrative or if she's more set dressing. (And I guess that applies to the other four, as well.)

Plus...we kinda already have that "playgirl" archetype in the form of Emma. Rindo is just way more overt about it and takes it beyond "polite but arguably-oblivious flirting" and into full-on propositioning (though not toward explicit ends). Which I think is partially why I want to see more from her, because I have to imagine Yuama isn't writing in duplicate archetypes to no real end.
And since Emma is clearly gunning for Suzuran and is otherwise "playing a part" for the student body, I want to see what distinction is made between her and Rindo, along that overall axis of characterization.

I did say I just don't get along with people who behave like that.
There are other ways to be "helpful", and while I am indeed aware of what she did, all I'm saying is it wouldn't have helped me.

She was one of several characters introduced, and she's not gonna put me off from reading the series.

you miss the entire point of her personality being like that, this is her character, that's how she behaves.
and yes, she basically planted some seeds already ..
you read most yuri that i also read, at least i see you commenting on them so i assume you are also reading them, which makes me wonder why you haven't picked up on certain things yet?
and no, this would not play out the same way without Rindo butting in like that.

also i don't think people took offense?
i was only explaining that Rindo isn't a bad person or has bad intentions, that's it.
some of the commenters here see her as hostile and immature, and they are around 16 or something, so that also checks out, but she is alright.
different people have different personalities, disliking people because they assist in their own way, is a bit strange.

but of course, you can dislike anybody you like, no one is telling you otherwise.

Sounds like you're judging me exactly because I stated what I did about Rindo.

"that's how she behaves" is fine. I made an offhand comment about how I don't personally dig people like that, but I wasn't going to be put off the series because of her, and that I expect her to be fleshed out more as time goes on, and I absolutely reserve the right to change my opinion past a first impression.
I've absolutely "picked up on some things", but I also am not certain why I'm spending time even responding, considering you've accused me of being 'anti-yuri' in the past over the silliest of reasons so I don't feel exactly compelled to put a lot of stock in your opinion on things. Just because I don't vibe with a specific character archetype doesn't mean I'm ignorant of what the character is doing for the story. I disagree that what she did was the necessary for Emma and Suzuran to get to the next point in the narrative that surrounds them, but I also realize that Rindo is here, ostensibly for a reason that goes beyond the author just throwing darts at a character board and filling in the blanks at random. So I'm just going to take her in stride and see what happens.

You felt compelled to interject and counter an entirely personal, subjective assessment that even hedged against itself, and I'm just not sure why you're acting like I've done some thing wrong in the process? Though I'm glad I have your permission to form my own opinions about characters in a fictional story though. Very magnanimous of you.

I'm confused. Do they have two vice presidents? Emma is named the vice president in the first chapter, and now here Mio is the vice president?

According to a tweet from Yuama last week Emma is actually a 3rd year middle schooler, so perhaps?

Rindo is ..........well, I'm sure she'll not be actually objectionable as the story goes on, and is just there to be shameless and to push Emma's buttons in a way almost no other character seems able. (Everyone needs their kryptonite, after all.)
Honestly I'm not great with Rindo's current type either. The line of toxicity is often unclear, in fiction often meaningfully blurred, from those who make a sport of others' romantic boundaries. In short it'll probably be fine, I'm just allergic to the persona until there's more layers.

Hopefully Rindo has good advice when Pres fumbles this next conversation, especially if Pres breaks things off and tries to repeat the terms she gave Emma at first. Seems a more interesting use of Rindo than whatever Emma expects of her.

We see that the Misehaya Sisters are Treasurer and Secretary, and then we get Mashiro & Yamada introduced shortly after with the same positions, only as middle schoolers.

So while it's not confirmed elsewhere in the series to this point, I'm guessing that with Hibiscus being a dual-division school (middle school & high school students on the same campus), the SC is set up to oversee both, and then it's just one high school student as president over everything (probably for the sake of simplicity of one "final decision-maker", type thing). And Emma's the middle school VP, and Rindo's the high school iteration.

It's entirely subjective and up to the individual, yes. It's a story; I can deal with it, especially if the author has plans for the character that amount to more than just acting like this randomly whenever she's on-screen and doing nothing else. I don't buy that she "planted seeds" for Emma & Suzuran in this incident, but that doesn't mean she won't have relevance later on, or even her own subplot that runs counter or parallel to the main pair's narrative beats.

For whatever reason, my saying "not my cup of tea" caused a stir, but I really don't think it's that big of a deal. I trust Yuama to not add superfluous characters that don't add to the overall texture of the story, so it's not like this Rindo's gonna make me drop the series or anything.
It also doesn't mean I have to like her, or that it's a problem that I don't at the outset.

Yes, I do really like how the series is portraying the characters!!!

I'll just change the colors if she's anything but red, I'll color swap her just to fulfill my headcanon

I don't fully agree to this.
I do think Emma and Mio are two faces of the same coin.
Emma is way more "innocent" in her flirting, reflecting her younger age (she is around 13); while Mio clearly states sexual interest (which, I'm afraid I wasn't able to properly show), stating herself that she likes "older women" and "women with a high sex appeal".
So while they are both flirtatious, they are very different in their ways, not to mention, we haven't seen Emma flirt with anyone else, and I do think her personality was created just to make Suzuran not look too much into the "relationship" proposal)

Honestly, so am I...
But yes, both Emma and Mio are technically "vice-president(s)"

My current theory is that both the high school and middle school have separate entities for that (would explain why we have two secretaries and two treasurers), but in this case who would be the president of the middle school?

oh, no no.
i only commented earlier so that i can say ''i told you so'' as per usual.
you didn't catch onto some things in other manga in the past and went all defensive when i pointed it out for you, so there is no hostility from me to you, only you being very defensive for some reason.
as for the anti-yuri thing, i said that to you, because i was genuinely questioning if you are even reading the manga you are commenting on.
i forgot which one it was, but you were very wrong about it.

that's it really.

I mean, we see what happens between her and the transfer student in chapter 1, and you say i this very comment that she's flirtatious, just "innocent" in how she goes about it. She technically flirts with everyone she meets (Suzuran calls her out in the opening chapter and the problems it poses); it's just that yes, it's seemingly a persona, though the reasons for her behaving this way aren't fully revealed at this time (I think it's more than just to throw Suzuran off, personally, but that it is part of Emma's reasoning).

It's apples to pears, more than apples to oranges, perhaps. I think she and Rindo mirror one another in more ways than one, especially as they're both VPs of their respective sub-schools within the Student Council.

Rindo is also the only person we've seen actually get that sort of reaction from Emma. The parallels between them seem intentional, if differently textured, at this point.

and, *we may know as readers that Emma seemingly has constructed this Flirt Persona, but the characters in the story do not, which is an important point for the narrative. So as far as the world is concerned, she and Rindo are indeed not too dissimilar.

Jesus but you're condescending.

"understanding" the tropes and formulae of a given series and the way the story goes isn't mutually exclusive with criticizing or finding issue with said formulae or gimmicks. I can know why a character does things, while still critiquing the decision making of the character, or at times the writer, and there's nothing inherently wrong with with that. Especially if in the exact same comment I even hedge against it, saying I get what's going on, and that I just take issue with this or that aspect.

You're not "better than" or in a position to tell me or anyone else anything just because you're capable of parsing literary techniques at a basic level. The fact that you turn around and act so sanctimonious in the same breath like you're talking down to me over a literally subjective interpretation of a text, and act like I'm somehow ignorant of something because you seemingly don't like that I have an opinion that differs from yours? You're not some arbiter of the manga genre who always has the correct answer and anyone who diverges from that is wrong, especially on such subjective measures.

Kindly kick rocks. I'm sure you don't see it as you being hostile, and I'm not going to spend time wondering if it's a lack of self-awareness, but every time you engage with something I've said it's so off-putting that I have to wonder how it appears you don't get called on it more often. Maybe others don't care, or those in your IRL life know you're sensitive or oblivious and just take it all in stride, but it's frankly borderline insulting at times and at this point I'm done.

i'll just apologize for it and avoid replying to your comments in the future.
