That old akagi has really changed from his youth akagi like he become more human.
Yeah He's definitely less intense than his younger self. I feel that it's because he's no longer searching for "One of his kind" as he put it. Most of his insanity came from trying to find someone cut from the same cloth as him during his gambles. After his match with Ichikawa there was a 5 year gap where Akagi mellowed down and wasn't in the limelight anymore, which led him to working a mundane factory job. I interpret this as him losing that fire after Ichikawa disappointed him as before their mahjong match and their Russian roulette showdown Akagi thought Ichikawa could potentially be of the same cloth. But was let down. The only thing that got him back in the spotlight was hearing about the Fake Akagi. Which interested him due to the fact that this Fake might actually be the type of person hes looking for(turns out he wasn't). The only person Akagi felt was the closest to him was Washizu and after that match he was also pretty melancholy due to the fact he won off a technicality and should have loss. From then on during the epilogue Akagi seemed more mellow and was just chilling with Osamu at the end before eventually leaving him and doing whatever he did between series.
