Its not reasonable because it's never been done before and he's never seen it. It's like someone coming up to you and telling you they're able to transmute water into gold but first you need to blow yourself up with some grenades before he can do it.

Ur not gonna believe him without seeing it first
It Sawatari/Sakota was some random civilian maybe, but he’s literally one the people who helped create (and personally created either Yamato or Maru, depending on who the clone is) and raise the Takahara Academy kids. He’s seen all sorts of unbelievable stuff, there’s no reason why he wouldn’t believe Maru and Kiruko if they told him about Maru’s abilities.

Also Sawatari/Sakota would have still likely kamikaze’d himself even if he didn’t know about Maru’s abilities as he was obviously looking for a way sacrifice himself while also trying to contribute impeding Anjulous.

Is there an element of selfishness to Sawatari/Sakota’s desire to sacrifice himself? Sure, in the same way Usami/Shiro’s choice to kill himself had an incredibly human element of selfishness despite all the value Usami had to other people as a Doctor. Like that’s part of the point.

And we are also almost certainly supposed to be frustrated with Sawatari/Sakota too, as evidenced by Kiruko’s own reaction to Sawatari/Sakota’s death.

Welp the answer to the mystery of the apocalypse just got written off like that so I guess the mystery continues.

But in all seriousness, I think Sawatari-sensei himself wished for death. He's set on redeeming himself, in any way, for the sins he committed and probably accepted the fact that he will one day have to sacrifice his life for it. Plus death also meant that he would be released from his regret of destroying humanity and finally be at peace.

thanks for the chapter
and sure his sacrafice was noble, but it does feel like the author just wanted him gone before he could explain more

Sawatari obiously knows Maru's clone Yamato. Since they are clones, there is a fair chance that Yamato has the same power. The Hikuro girl like a priestess is saying that both are enemies, after all.
As for his death, it's quite obvious that his sense of culpability for the Disaster is enormous (and let's face it, rightly so). He obviously see Anzu as a threat for the Minister of reconstruction and this gives him the possibility to redeem slightly himself.

In the chapter the Hiruko's name is Anjulas, but the chapter name is Anjulous. Which is it?

I absolutely can't believe that happened. That was the most useless death I have seen in a while.
I guess the editor told the writer: so you know, the doctor joins Maru and Kiruko then the story is basically wrapping up. I mean he knows all the secrets... right?
So they decided to extend it with a long detour...

At least Kiruko got her answer but wow if I was not as outraged as her when when that happened. This guy could swap brains in people. A lot of people could have used that...

I kind of feel like this manga jumped the shark in this chapter. The development feels very contrived.

Indeed. I was like: So we have other soldiers there. Did no one ever think of trying that plan? You needed a doctor, THE ONLY DOCTOR left in the city to do that for you?

I think the author is telling everyone: there is literally no point keeping these smart people alive. The world is not going to get saved. The kids have to fix the problems the hard way. The adults have to step out of the story.

I was like: So how much longer are you going pull this shit, brilliant but cliche author? You did it with the director, you did it with Usami, now you did with the Doctor!?
I can forgive the director and Usami to some degree. They had valid reasons. But the doctor was just dumb... they could have literally tied to grenades to a rope and thrown it at the tentacles...

I guess the kamikaze gene is strong in the author still. There's just something about a suicide bombing that tickles some people in juust the right way

I don't think anyone noticed yet but Kiruko'a role is slowly getting written off. In the beginning of the manga I swear that Kiruko killed monsters with that gun. Why is that suddenly not possible anymore? We just have to get Maru there now?
In a previous chapter a single shot from that gun split a giant a spider in 2...
It just feels like the author is writing in New abilities or details as we go along. Like Maru now being able to sense Maneater and gifted kids when he previously couldn't.
The director dying by that disease yet not turning into a monster... I mean she had the core I presume.

Kind of feels like we should stop caring about this mystery...

i believe they explain that the monsters she 'killed' with that gun will eventually regenerate unless Maru smooshes the core.
i dunno about those spiders, they might just have functioned like extensions or 'limbs' of the main maneater with the core inside, who was hiding under the car.

Yes, only Maru has ever been capable of permanently killing a Man-Eater, if the core isn't crushed by Maru the Man-Eater will eventually regenerate and/or go into the near-death suspended state of animation (thus Nanaki's spider-like Man-Eater is still alive somewhere). Also the little Man-Eater's Ohma's Man-Eater spawned all had their own individual cores.

Also we don't know if The Director/Mikura turned into a Man-Eater after she died. While she did die from the unique disease that Tarao and Kuku died from (and Mimihime was afflicted by), we don't if the fact that Mikura's brain not being a Hiruko-person's brain originally (i.e. Nata had her brain removed) is a requirement for the body to transform after death or not.

Here's a character chart that people can refer to if they need help keeping track of the cast.
