I'm still rooting for Yasuke to win, but I like how the last chapter gave some actual texture to Togo's character, as well. How he was once this seemingly noble, "normal" person who reacted to trauma by trying to become so strong he'd never need to feel pain or fear again. He fell so deeply into swordsmanship and the pursuit of strength that in trying to remove pain and fear from his life, he removed his humanity along with it.

And I like how it mirrors Yasuke, in a way. But instead of trying to shave away his humanity, Yasuke responded to tragedy by choosing to become a protector so that no one would need to be afraid in his presence and so he wouldn't lose anyone else ever again. He's fighting for Nobukatsu because he wants to see the Japan Nobukatsu will create, where peace is the law of the land and people can't be exploited like he and his family were. Good stuff. Excellent character writing. Simple, clean, and extremely effective.

I hope that Yasuke wins this one, but not for nothing, this match-up and particularly Togo's side of the match ended up a lot more interesting than I'd expected.

Honestly I believe that he'll win this fight.
The other Western fighter lost really badly and they are not gonna have both of them losing in a row. Japan can be a lot of things, but racist and xenophobic isn't one of them.

I like a good "blade" as much as anyone but in a philosophical sense... I learned in my life to respect the "shield" much more.

As impressive as it is to shave from yourself to become something "more", it isn't exactly a path of compassion... quite the contrary, it is a path of pure selfishness, Yasuke took the despair of his past to turn into a force to protect... is he protecting the right people, a question beyond me.

But this obsession with the power to only destroy what is in front of you... not my jam, bub.

Between the crazy bastard that became a sword and only sees as an instrument of killing, and the man trying to nurture a more gentle future... to me, the choice isn't hard.

That talk about how gentle leaders only lead to suffering is what egotistical fucks say to justify their shit, gentleness isn't naivety.
FACTS! I don’t care how cliché it is I wanna see the good guys, actually win and change this alternate universe for the better! Fuck everyone who thinks kindness is the same as weakness
