Dude barely was a character to begin with.

It's quite obvious that the author can only really do cute girls doing cute things kinda series and they kinda suck at writing male characters. Komugi is a walking plot device, his sole personality is "nice doormat". The entire series is around the genius witch and her friends, Komugi is just there so the genius witch has something to react to and have emotions for.

I can't say I wholly agree. Just because a male character isn't completely over the top like in a shounen work doesn't mean he has no personality. I'd agree he's not being written to his potential at all and he's too often just satellite character for Nayu. But I also think sweet-natured, softspoken simps have their place in the tableau of male personalities. Goodness knows I run into quite a few "Komugis" in vtuber fan communities for instance.

I do think we're overdo for a chapter entirely about Komugi and what goals he's working towards independently of Nayu, though. Otherwise this is the odd occurrence of a work failing a reverse Bechdel Test.

Usually that's the norm, but since they managed to have Nayu generate MP she can't absorb by herself, then absorb it through a machine, they wanted to try and see if anyone else could do it too.

Everything is fine so long as you don't stop translating this manga just because you run out of chapters. Way too many translators do that, too. Just grab a time machine, immortality serum, and some blackmail. And make the mangaka work forever and collect the result from the future! Easy, right?!

A doormat wouldn't have responded to her taunt the way he did in chapter 45.

It's easier to define him by what he's NOT compared to other protagonists. He's not a walking pile of lust which is lowkey rare among male leads of romcoms. In fact he's not a schoolboy either, I bet you could count the number of times he blushes on two hands or less, he's very level-headed. And this is more of an implication but I think he is also very hardworking. It's usually depicted that studying under a genius is a pain. Not only has he never complained, the dude went and started his own business with what he learned.

In all fairness, I'm not going to pretend growing up doesn't make you kinda boring, but that's exactly what he is. A grown-up. He actually kinda reminds me of Asakura You from Shaman King, another character who had his shit together for the most part (though his morals were kinda on the HxH spectrum).
