Nope. He was originally a Japanese dude who died, went to Earth's hell, and spent two thousand years as a devil. At some point, he learned that all the hells of all worlds are interconnected (or something to that effect), so he escaped and made his way to this world.

Kakyu is a completely different type of "demon", hmmm... I think the "hint" was at the beginning of the story, but it has been some time, and I forgot it.

apparently devils are people that has gone to hell (from earth), then he was sent here where demons themselves are an entirely different race/subspecies which can travel to the normal human plane easily. So currently hes the only devil and has never went to this world's hell before
