Bruh weed is good shit though.
Even the slime agrees.
You just need a bong or stuff it in a joint or something.

That said, one does not just have everyone carry the full ensemble on the first day or even the first week. Let alone add on more weight in the middle of it. The first step is always physical conditioning. To get a person used to the weight and the feeling of carrying such a big load. That they did not do that is definitely the main reason why there's a high dropout rate.
This academy doesn't want to bother to teach you the basics, it wants you to already be done with that, which is why the entrance exam is so difficult. The wrong thing about this is that this camp isn't directly part of the entrace exam, but instead titled as 'event', even though you still get thrown out of the academy if you don't pass the mark.

A little excess for strengthening in their case can only help, is probably what the instructor is thinking. Apart from the armor, there's also the Kngiht's weapons. Sword, shield, lance, what have you...whatever they're assigned. They're training them to be able to make their way as footmen from the sound of things, so they'll also be bringing their survival kits along with them. The totaal amount of weight will certainly go past the weight of just their armors.
Sword or mace or axe and shield combined (let alone twohanded swords or polearms) are less hefty than a fireman's axe (which comes in at 6 lbs); when I said that it's with the entire kit, for both knight and fireman, in mind. Lances are a cavalry-only weapon, though, so not a factor.

Yuuji's right about knights in our world. You don't wear your armour travelling to battle. You wear it while fighting. On the way there you have tons of logistical support who carry a bunch of stuff for you. That world, on the other hand, is probably different.
There's no guarantee that you won't be attacked on your way to your destination. Monsters may not care if you were traveling in a large group. Also, the hypothetical calls for traveling to somewhere where you can only go to on foot, which means no carts. If the terrain is too rough for ordinary people, it may be worse to have them carry your gear.
