Whether or not it's cut-and-paste though, all authors have character reference sheets for all the significant characters who will play a major part, which is necessary to maintain consistency. If someone looks generic, they're usually a disposable goon who will eventually be slated to be killed off, or whose disgrace will be used as a plot device to further enhance the rep of the MC.

In Ch 1. he instantly reads a couple of bookcases full of ridiculously advanced magic books using the shared senses with the slimes. Why didn't he just do the same thing as soon as they handed him the books to study?

I don't remember when, but the slimes mentioned that they only read the skill books like picture books and can't actually read the language. And then there's also the thing that Yuuji wants to know that knowledge himself and not have to rely on his slimes for that
