That's what I hate the most about isekais. Technology doesn't grow in a vacuum, there're many things around development that need to be fulfilled to advance in something else. Besides that, it's quite convenient that all protagonists for some reason have an extremely superb memory so they remember every single thing from their old world. And when they not, it's played for laughs.

Besides that, giving modern tech to a specific town or kingdom is just the basis for imperialism, they're inventing imperialism.

you're saying it as if imperalism is bad....

You don't need to have a superb memory, just be a specialist in an engineering field or simply interested.
Yes, a lot of developments need prerequisites, but you can develop those, or are you telling me you don't know the process to make a blast furnace?, or a steam engine?, unless MC is a complete ignorant muppet.

A lot of isekai tackle this beautifully, where MC advanced the technology be leaps and bounds (efficient waterwheels using prime numbered gearing for example), mass production of iron and steel, blast fur, advanced sanitation/plumbing. That's what i like to see, MC using advanced modern engineering knowledge to rapidly industrialize the setting.

the isekai where MC does not take advantage of their modern knowledge are wasted opportunities

Yet another instance of a fantasy manga where instead of doing world building they insert Japan. If you're going to do a bath fan service scene, would it kill you to make it otherworldly?

But on the positive side I love the included man service. Keep it fair and balanced.
At least do Roman baths because of the European like setting. I want to see oiled wrestling in sand for exfoliation.

Imperialism is pretty bad for everyone outside the imperial core.

I also think you're severely underestimating how much foundational work goes into recreating industrial technology. Have you read "The Perfectionists" by Simon Winchester? He discusses how early attempts at iron power transfer machines in the late 18th century (like James Watt's steam engine) were incredibly inefficient because the machining technology didn't have tight tolerance capabilities. It wasn't until John Wilkerson invented a boring machine capable of putting a straight hole through a block of iron that a usable steam engine was created.

In terms of an isekai, you'd have to first know the concept of a machine you wanted to create, then know the technical skills needed to create that machine, then have access to the material production technology to get the stuff to make the machine, then have the charisma to organize a team of laborers to stop growing food to help build a machine they've never seen before. If you don't have one of those things, you have to spend a long time using trial and error to figure it out.

Another issue is that industrial society creates specialists rather than generalists. It's rare to find adults who have more than surface level knowledge outside of their specific field. A chemist might be able to create fuel, but would they know how to farm or mine for materials, or how to blow glass for distillation? A machinist might know how to build a lathe, but do they know how to turn iron sand into carbide steel tooling? An individual with modern knowledge would need collaborators to put industrial knowledge to practical use.

Taking it back to this story, Ars is an office worker. He knows how to be a cog in a bureaucracy. He does use his modern knowledge, it's just that he has some ideas on organizing people instead of manufacturing or design knowledge.

My favourite take on it is probably Risou no Himo Seikatsu. There's an actual struggle to produce glass. First they have to figure out how to get a hot enough temperature to melt the minerals, and then also find the correct minerals for it. That's all before starting to figure out how to form that amorphous solid into something practical.

This chapter: Gay baths
Breaking news its now gay to bath with other men in an open bath waht was once believed to be a economical way for multiple people to shower is in fact gay.
next on kinda gay if you think about it channel we find out how many feet apart men must be while doing things together for it not to be gay?
the answer may shock you.

I like that one too. It's not just the "how it's made" parts but also the international political headaches his knowledge accidentally causes. I also like how in some respects their tech level is less advanced because there was an easy magical solution, while in other areas they had to use their ingenuity to solve problems without magic.

I'm currently binging Ascendence of a Bookworm LN which also shows the struggle to recreate modern technology. They roughly know how to make something, but find that otherworldly materials are unique from earth materials so the process requires months or years of experimentation.

Not gonna lie, until this chapter I had completely forgotten that this started off as an isekai.

Just your standard isekai being your standard isekai. I just assume that if it's not showing up reasonably frequently, it doesn't matter if it's an isekai, reincarnation, or some other bs idea to make the MC a special snowflake.

The Japanese compulsion to have a public bath in a western setting always amazes me. Seconded only by their compulsion for a female character to talk about another women's boobs. I always wonder if Japanese women actually do that or if it's a trope that Japanese men are trying to wish into existence 😂😂😂

They can't all be Appare-ramnan, that made fun of the Japanese characters getting in the hot spring naked. In America.
