@Harry_Dong not personally, but still, a dead one is a dead one and I'm quite sure that murder is still a crime there, surely the punishment depends on who kills whom, but if that slave trader is useful asset to a mighty lord, he will not just overlook it if someone ruins his business - so it was just a kind forced deal, since the merchant doesn't know her real value he has no real reason to pursue him that much or he would probably loose his face if it would be known that his goons were defeated by a single child

He's literally the son of the lord and soon to be lord himself. Who's going to question him besides his father? What crime? Execution or killing in self defense is not a crime. In many medieval and/or fantasy settings, even so much as insulting nobility constituted a death sentence on the spot. When they may as well be above the law, so who's to say murder (by anybody) was a crime there, period. For all we know, killing criminals like bandits or outlaws could have been rewarded for bounties. We don't know what all laws they have there.

And even if he didn't want to make the deaths hidden, he could make it so the slaver was killed with some trumped up charges like "he robbed and attacked us, so he dead now", or any other numerous ways he could have permanently silenced him. People in power make others disappear all the time, and it's even easier in this setting, let alone being the ones in charge of making and enforcing the laws. Besides, had the slaver not agreed to the given terms, he was going to to simply kill him then and there, so giving him that option was a moot point anyway.

MC basically can do whatever he wants as long as he does not piss off another Noble family of higher status.

Nobility is law... heck even now, while not exactly "nobility", money allows most "crimes" to simply be a single cash settlement away from being expunged.
Especially if you commit the crime through an organization like a corporation - where the only actual punishment is fines... and fines only make something illegal if your poor.

The only other possible authority is the Church/religion, which in some more advanced governments where the "source" of "noble power" and superseded all - even royals... but the "laws" they needed to follow where pretty lax and often changed specifically to suit the needs of the nobility and only existed in Memetic space as a "check" on their power.

The Notion that Nobility had to "Answer to god" was a good way to keep the commoners "content"... even if in reality, any attempt to bring Nobility to account would be fruitless in almost all cases.
