MC: For demons the number of horns indicate their social standing.
Demon girl with 5 horns: I'm a princess!
MC: Princess?! Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh

Does he really need to be such a moron?
Well in MC's defense, he didn't really know how many horns are per social standing in Demon Society.

It could have been possible that for 5 horns is just a high level noble, while 6 or 7 horns could have been royalty.
The problem is that this conflicts with what Cain monologues within chapter 62 -- first that Set (the Demon Lord who has four horns) once told him "High Nobility and above have four horns" and he speculated that she just might outrank Set [I zipped through the previous chapters from Set's introduction onward to see if I could find an actual chapter to reference, but if there was then I missed it]. And when even Dalmatia as a (retired) member of the Four Heavenly Kings knelt in her presence, it seemed to affirm to him that her rank was high enough to merit that.

"Ask the surviving son if he had noticed anything wrong with Corgino lately."
Asking to find a needle in a haystack.

"The fact my daughter was attacked and almost enslaved..."
That's a very tiny almost. So tiny it's not even an almost anymore. It's just a, "Nah, MC too OP, plz nrf."

"Therefore, war should be avoided."
No need to come up with those reasons. War should always be avoided.

"I feel ashamed for not having the power of a god."
About what he said.

"Please don't all it a 'castle'..."
Exactly. It's a palace. It's not fortified, so it's not a castle.

"Why must you surround yourself with many women..."
Because they attach themselves to him, and he's not allowed to say no.

"Wait—'also'?"
Of course she is. Why wouldn't she be? Did you even expect something else?

Part of it is probably a TL issue cause early in the story we don’t know much about demon kind. And maou can be translated as either Demon King or Demon Lord. So it could be assumed that Seth was the highest rank at the time. Lisabeth outranks Seth since she’s a Demon Princess, so most likely we would go with the Demon Lord. Since later it is revealed there’s a Demon Emperor since it’s an Empire.
The demon lords oversee the four different regions of the demon empire so I’d guess they’d be similar to something like a Legate/Provincial Governor of the Roman Empire.
At least that’s how I see it.

My big issue with this is how the time-skip now jumbles the power scaling. He underwent all of those YEARS of training in a hostile environment to now get cut up by some demon possession? I get it’s the end boss but WHY is there a challenge here, right?!
i mean he looked like he was struggling, but then again he literally insta killed him. i think he was just having a hard time with the decision to end his life.

Wasn't the demon that mc summoned called "demon lord"? Or it is not a title but a rang in demon society. Really confusing.
The supreme ruler of the demons styles himself "emperor", and he rules over 4 demon kings. Lisabeth is the daughter of the demon emperor. So the demon MC summoned has more real power than Lisabeth (which comes with his job), but Lisabeth is his boss's daughter.

Reminder abt power hierarchies: kings in an empire fit the role of dukes in a kingdom, in that they are the second-highest rank. Therefore an Imperial Demon Princess like Lisabeth here would outrank Demon Kings.

This is just a misunderstanding of this series classic proclivity for hyperbolic reactions.

He already suspects she is a demon with status, probably higher than Seto. If I take translations of the two chapters, chapter 29 where Dalmatia was summoned, and the WN, all at face value. Then he believes that she could be of higher rank than Seto, but not by how much. The fact that Dalmatia shows her respects only confirms that much, because he himself is currently subordinate to Seto.

Cain at this time has only scarce details of Seth's true rank or the Empire's structure. Seto presented himself as a ruler in his own right, but Cain is unsure if perhaps he's more like a Baron or Count.

Lisabeth is also a young woman, so with Cain's worldview, she could be only a daughter of a noble family with no title as of yet, particularly since she has been traveling around alone, not something royalty would typically be doing even in secret.

All this to say, he's just not sure how far up the totem pole she is. That she was actually the princess of the entire empire, was slightly outside his expectations. But either way, it's this series. That is enough for him to react with shock.

That's not far off, though I saw it as being more similar to the Holy Roman Empire (the middle ages). Most territories within the HRE followed a feudal system, where nobility regardless of each constituent country recognized foreign kings as their superior, but considered all of them subordinate to the Emperor. Or more specifically, the kings ruled where the Emperor could or would not rule.

The main difference is in the real HRE, the Roman emperor's imperial power was backstopped by Papal recognition and political clout, which led to some emperors being acknowledged as a "higher" ruler by kings and some not really. In the demon empire, might is right, so the emperor's imperial legitimacy is unquestioned and total.

CMIW, but isn't the elf knight also a princess?
Yes. She's actually the princess of the elf kingdom of Risbelt. But because the kingdom is militarily weak, and was plagued with human elf trafficking by other countries, Esfort accepted it as a vassal to protect it. While officially a dukedom of Esfort, in reality it operates as an autonomous kingdom. So she's a duke's daughter but recognized as a princess by the people who matter.

also don't forget the saintess. she's in another country rn but she is also basically in the bag.
so he's at least at 5 rn.
how many of them are there at this point 5, 6, 7
Six:
Telestia (Esfort's Princess)
Silk (Duke's daughter)
Tifana (Esfort's Knight Captain)
Lilutana (Basias's Princess)
Hinata (Saintess)
Lisabeth (Demon Empires's Princess)

But only three girls have been officially engaged to Cain (Telestia, Silk, and Tifana).
