lol, got a lot of strikes on my last comment from people who are too lazy or emotionally stunted to learn to handle their kids and would rather smack them around instead.
there's a form of discipline with spanking that isn't abuse, you spank when they do something bad then tell your kid what they did bad, then explain to your kid why doing x thing is bad and what the results would be, better you, the parent spanking your kid vs the law or someone else do it to your kid.
there's a big difference between discipline and abuse
discipline does not end up as ptsd for the child, abuse does

there's also the fact that people who have been spanked like in many asian countries, don't end up causing trouble for society or don't join stupid trends on social media. we also don't have school shooters so there's that

That's a gross oversimplification that misses a lot of things. IMO, the gentle parenting style leads to entitled kids that can't handle hard work and disappointment but generally doesn't lead to school violence among other things.

Neglect, abuse, and bullying are what leads to school violence. There is a small correlation between gentle parenting and being bullies but it's not a major factor. Neglect and abuse are caused by socio-economic factors and parents that view their kids as a nuisance rather than someone to nurture and grow. No amount of changing parenting style will make up for the lack of love for one's kid.

As for why this happens, the reasons are many. Poor people tend to have less education and access to contraception. There are also people who deliberately have more kids to abuse the welfare system. Some have kids to have the public appearance of having an ideal family. It's a complicated matter, not just "Oh, parenting is to blame."

If you can't get your child's undivided attention for the duration of an explanation without laying hands on them it says a lot about you. As for the reasons we have loads of gun violence, it's a combination of factors: easy access to guns, schools ignoring interpersonal problems until violence is seen as the only option, and stigmatizing and overpricing mental health care. It doesn't help that we have a pipeline of malinformation leading kids from slightly edgy rebellious to full on incels looking up to Elon Musk and listening to Jordan Peterson and Joe Rogan.

listening to Jordan Peterson and Joe Rogan.
Never listened to anything from Joe Rogan, so no comment on that, but what's wrong with Jordan Peterson? He's an academic and his lectures are great and factual for the most part, with some personal interpretations of his thrown in there sometimes, but it still makes sense what he thinks as he motivates them with persuasive reasoning and experiences of his own from when treating people, and quotes studies as well.

Wth is wrong about that?

The warning was my doing. It was specifically because I didn't like it, so I thought some others would also think "yeah that's a little fucked up" - guess not. That's fair. The warning's been removed.

This is still the worst chapter in the series though. I am now firmly in the "Cain, you might as well just stab them" camp.

I think the Saint poison incident was worse, as it showed how the assassin guild used a kid to not only poison the Saint but also used the same poison to kill that kid to remove evidence (we even see the dead body of that kid), as if the kid was just a tool.

Compared to that, a pre-teen getting slapped twice isn't that big of a deal, especially in the eyes of Asian kids (because sometimes it's much worse than just two slaps).

The moron is really about to break his "Don't do evil shit" promise, the same day he made it to a S-rank adventure??

Man is just as stupid as his son...

Now this would strike some viewers as harsh. But personally, I think everyone involved in this story should die.

Yes. These people read too much Wuxia where an entire family gets eradicated over a minor slight.

Also if this is following the novel this isn't over yet so people saying he let them off easy should wait a bit.
It is one thing for those stories where the whole family is killed because one person fucked up, even the uninvolved.

But in here, Cain was very clearly aware that the father was more than willing to use his authority to brush off his son getting someone's arm cut off (or trying to) with just some coin.
Clearly the father is also corrupt, and probably has some deeper shit that should at least be investigated.

Yet Cain says "do you promise not to do it again?"

And it does not matter if things changed in the future, we are talking about Cain's actions now.
Things in the future would be fueled by future actions, but until then the other crimes, both explicitly shown to Cain and hinted at, are going unpunished.

Also, are you guys still talking about if slapping is a good punishment?

Then, let us not forget the context.

With everything else bad that we saw happen to children in this very same story, that same age or younger, we get a "child violence" warning about two slaps, that did not break the skin or even seem to leave a mark.
From and to a group of people we already knew to be assholes.
That we know are more than willing to main and cripple people, even other children. And that even in this very chapter was revealed is involved in the child slavery ring we were introduced to not that long ago.

"there is never a justification to" what story are you reading?

Since you like context so much, that part about the apology was just about going to war or not. As in, if a noble in a country attacks/orchestrates an attack (or in this case, guilty by association due to his son) against a noble (in this case a higher noble) of a different country, then it would be possible for a war to begin from that. They talk about it in this manga chapter, and in the WN as well, that it's what it can lead up to.
Cain accepting his apology, even with that small "promise", was just about preventing war. As for the matter of the incident itself, it's still going to be tried at their parliament, where this manga chapter has already made it clear that he (the father) will lose his status and be forced to pay a reparation fee.

Or another way to put it is that the apology stuff was just about the diplomatic matter, and of course Cain wouldn't want it to escalate to war. The legal matter of how it broke the republic's laws will still be tried as is at their parliament, where the chapter has already made clear that he'll lose his status and be forced to pay a reparation fee.

The warning is terrible, it overblew what actually happened. The TL created a buildup that wasn't needed or put their originally.

Also, Cain not doing anything about evil idiot nobleman 1 due to lack of evidence is one thing, but, "pinky swear you won't be evil?" to this chuckle fuck is just dumb.

Anyone know when Corgino will just... disappear ? He's more than just mildly annoying.
There is a bit more story left in this trip, but Corgino finally gets his upon their return. Depending on the pacing and division of the upcoming chapters, it may happen soon or it may be a while. 🤷‍♀️

The clichè "i will not kill evil people no matter what even if they will hurt later my family" is hard to die in some of these isekai fantasy stories, how unexpected...
In the web novel, he even killed sometimes, but they censored that in the manga.
