Shame on them; manipulating that poor girl. At least now she knows how the world works.

@Dinokin

Thanks for sharing.

But I'd like to point out that the queen is not her 'mother-in-law', at least not in English. I know in Japanese, 'in-law' refers to everything non-blood related pertaining to legal family status, but in English, it is not so. Her father's wife is not her mother-in-law.

In English, if her mother is not her blood mother, that's a stepmother, not a mother-in-law. Mother-in-law has a specific meaning in English, which is the mother of someone you marry. If the little princess marries or is engaged to Phil, Phil's mother will be her mother-in-law.

Duh. Its always the evil uncle. Everyone knows that!
Though you should also beware butlers. If there isn't an uncle, the butler did it.

@Riger And if you don't have a butler, it was the maid. If you don't have a maid, it was the step-mother.

MC really is being incredibly retarded and for no reason at all his father goes along with it. an assassin tried to murder the princess and instead of handing him over to the diplomat so they can interrogate and sentence him MC instead not only protects him but also hires him and on top of all that his father just goes along with it. this can be seen as MC's kingdom being behind the assassination, this is a massive diplomatic event yet MC just refuses to hand him over, this could lead to war between the nations. MC is just so out of line on this one, absolute moron.

@doomer completely agree. If the diplomat was competent he would have brought up that this was clearly an assassination attempt from MC's country and they are trying to shelter him so they don't get found out.
Of course since its the MC, he will be right and it will be the 'uncle' who did it.

Makes sense i guess? Kill the girl and let a child of the king and that woman become heir instead.

btw, it would be moronic to hand him over, all are going waddadada about how it could be seen as an attempt from this country trough that behaviour, but all are just ignoring that it could be an attempt of the visitors country to give them a war reason, so they take the boy home, hang him and then just say that he confessed to be hired by the country to kill the princess.
It is ALWAYS a incredibly dumb move to give a prisoner in a incident that involves also your own country to give to another one...

The making him a servant is sure debatable, at least i wouldnt tell them.

@Doomer @boogle Well technically he was the one being attacked and not the princess so refusing to hand over the prisoner to the other country and delivering punishment is their right.
It can even be seen as the other country attempt to assassinate their prince from the home country point of view if the criminal is from their country.

The 'punishment' aside, which is stupid btw, what they are doing (discussing and investigating the possible culprit with both side present) is the correct call imo

There's several reasons it doesn't make sense for the diplomat to accuse the MC's country of attempting to assassinate their princess:
1) What would they gain from killing the princess that is meant to become a tie between both countries? There's no motive.
2) Beastmen do not originate from MC's country so it's highly unlikely they could procure a young beastman who happened to be able to control darkness fairies and know that they could target the princess because she has a shuka contract with a bird of light...
3) Diplomacy - you don't just accuse another king of an assassination attempt in his face. You hire spies to gather evidence first and retaliate from the shadows if necessary.

@Aichan I was just about to point that out too!
It’s been on my mind since I read it, so I couldn’t focus on the real plot !
Thanks for a thorough explanation!😊

@leo80221 and if not the step-mother, it is the mother-in-law. Which seems to be the kings wife, which makes no sense as @Aichan mentioned. So it must be the tl knowing she is the culprit and opting to use mother-in-law because of that as a hint. Which is a ?

He'll never have to worry about criminals if he has the Batman himself as a servant. At least as long as the Joker doesn't get isekai'd.

The servant thing doesn't make sense, but I can follow the rest of Phil's logic fairly well-especially his arguments against letting them take Batman.

And really, Phil's "punishment" is just his ulterior motive of wanting fluffies.

Regarding the assassination accusation...it's basically been said. This is a sticky diplomatic situation for both countries, and in terms of self-protective paranoia, neither can afford to let the other have the criminal completely. There's arguments for and against both sides (though MC's country has more deniability, as far as I can tell), and the best course of action from here on is a joint investigation that keeps both sides informed.

@Kyujyu @Kireato yeah, I see that my comment has a lot of flaws in it.
Still find the king allowing his son to "release" an assassin unreasonable.
