@Triparadox it would be interesting if this premise was done with an american or someone who had a fondness for all sorts of foods, not just japanese.

Probably to some degree. personally i think i would do fine sense i like food from all over. But i can see the sentiment. The issue i have is with the fetishisation off it.
It's called a troupe for a reason. stop beating the dead horse please

@svipi: They aren't "westerners". They're "completely different fantasy civilization that slightly resembles old western world".

The trope is not about superiority but about civilization having bad or weird cooking habits and someone coming up with new recipes.
