i lived with a moonshiner in kentucky for a year in my youth and at least as far as bourbon/corn whiskey goes, there is no peat in it, and i don't think it is in the irish whiskey i drink today. peat might be the fuel they used to roast the grain and boil the mash, but there is no crumbled dirt, peat or otherwise, in whiskey. the flavor comes from the fire charred, used oak wine casks they age it in more than anything else. remember kiddies, moonshine is just new whiskey that was never barrel aged, and has little flavor, just a crapton of buzzzzz. basically, whiskey is just the alcohol that is boiled/distilled from beer.
