It's been at least a year since she left in volume 1, the village thought that she was going to live in the Marquis' city as an apothecary, they didn't even know that she was sent to the Royal Capital to work directly for the royal academy.

Even if they did send a message to her as soon as the mom got sick the travel time alone would have made it reach her too late. Traveling from the Village to Marquis City took weeks by itself in a horse carriage.
