He avoided studying anything that wasn't of personal interest to him, which was apparently mainly if not only alchemy. So, he had the worst grades and attendance in the dragon rider academy. So bad that the magic academy refused to let him in, despite his royal status and the king himself directly requesting it. His general behavior wasn't fitting for a prince at all. That's why he got the nickname. Peeping and being fat were just one part of it. But certainly there have been worse pig nobles in manga.
