Somehow this just does not hit like original. Hard to pin point exactly why is it so much weaker, but just does not read great.

Isn't the FMC blind since birth? Did the author even think what will happen to a person who has suddenly gain a new perception that is not there when she was born and growing? The last record I've read was also a lady with inborn blindness that has given a new eyes and surgery to make her see but didn't last long before she killed herself because the brain can't process the new perception. Trying to understand everything the eyes can see overloaded her mind.
