The reverse harem tag made me think that it had romance but to be honest, I was just venting my frustrations because I recently finished the live action romance genderswap show that I mentioned in my comment and it just made me realise how boringly manga and anime handle genderswap themes and romance in general so I vented my frustrations in the comment 😅.

I think one of the reasons why I think genderswap themes in Manga and Anime are so boring is because they make the MC too dull, too adaptable, too simple, too one-sided, or too boring. Or sometimes they make the story about the genderswap itself, which makes it just boring.

One of the best examples of a good genderswap story is Fake Saint of the Year. Everything about it is just good for a genderswap manga/novel. The MC is overpowered, yes. But they're not dull at all. The later chapters get much more generic though (novel chapters), but that's fine because the story adds build up and y'know what.

A bad genderswap story is something like ONIMAI. Onimai, although a comedy manga, doesn't really have anything else other than just the comedy aspect. Like in the latest and newest chapters, it's always about school or how the MC gets pestered by the friend group, but it's getting so dull to the point where you just want to click out instead of reading more.

The point is: Genderswap mangas/novels aren't good unless they actually have some decency or rationality in them. It's an extra tag, but if done right, adds more depth to the story.

no, there is no romance. the novel does have the 無差別ハーレム tag, which translates to 'indiscriminate harem' but as i said, there is no romance.

edit: Also it's missing the Loli tag. these translators should really stop misstagging the manga... i already reported it as information to correct though.

Harem tag is irrelevant and completely superflous if the only emotions are friendship, admiration, adoration and people looking up to the MC, there are so many manga that are tagged harem (or the moronic "reverse harem", the reverse of harem would be celibacy) just because there are 3+ people who look up to the MC as a "leader" or father figure that it has diluted the meaning of harem to the point of meaninglesness.

Loli has reached the point where manga is being tagged loli just because it has a cute, young girl in it (and if that is enough for someone to say it should be tagged loli, I'd recommend therapy before they do something illegal), that's so far off from what loli used to mean that it has lost basicly all meaning as well.

Loli was originally used to mean a young looking seductive and/or s*xually attractive girl, today it's used to mean what you said, any young looking "cute" girl, which is pretty far from the original meaning/intent.

The "modern" changes to the use of the tags has been gradual over the past ~15-20 years, from (atleast) the 70s up until early 2000s they didn't have the diluted meaning they have today.

i see one person talked about a good gb novels here so i wanna add one good (what i think is good cause i exclusively read gb novels and rarely other novels that don't have said genre) romance gb novel the title is Reborn as My Love Rival’s Wife the romance story is just good the main mc that have turned into a girl still have all of her masculinity from her past body and she slowly but surely connects with the husband making a fake contractual marriage with no love in it into a full lovely marriage.

i dont know why i like gb novels tbh that genre is mostly redundant in novels almost nothing would change if the mc or other isnt gender changed.
also fake saint of the year novel is goated the manga does the novel not terribly but they skip on so many parts in the novel

I grew up reading any manga i got my hands on (and i do mean the old times with some cr*appily translated scans in a zip file downloaded from god knows where) and by now i know harem has literally nothing to offer because even if the story starts out good, it's gonna be ruined with the same shi*ty harem story tropes and a bunch of 2d girls(whose brains are often offline) all falling madly in love with the bland and boring mc, what i avoid in harem is not romance - romance is extremely hard to avoid if avoiding ecchi and harem takes priority, i avoid harem because of horrible writing so it's impossible that I'm "missing out on enjoyment" of reading trash

You completely missed the point that there's a lot of manga/anime that is tagged as "Harem" simply because the MC has 2+ companions/friends of the opposite gender, without any hint of love, romance (well, sometimes there's 1 interest, the rest are friends), ecchi, "harem tropes" (and what you call horrible writing) etc but they get get overlooked by people like you who knows they don't like the usual "harem".
