Who calls their goddess Sardine anyway?
I mean.....Aqua isn't much of a Goddess name either lol.

And I'm curious what the hero's angle in this is. She's obviously a reincarnated like the MC and knows the game included her own fate and yet she still mindlessly (to our eyes) head towards it. Unless she has a deal with the goddess, I can't think of why she would knowingly head towards a bad ending.

If so Thor would not be one either. (About Aqua not Sardines)
And maybe her power is besed on a fact of demons lowing sardines so she gets stronger when they eat them a lot.

In my opinion a name that embodies one of the four classic primal elements is actually very godlike... Unlike the wielder of said name lmao

See that's the thing.
The name Aqua doesn't "embodies one of the four primal elements", it's just Latin for "water".
An actual example of a name that embodies water would be "Undine" (or Ondine however which you wish to spell it). It does not mean water, but is heavily associated to water.
Aqua as a goddess name to someone who speaks Latin would be equal to a English speaker to name her Water. Or to Japanese named her "Mizu".
Juuuust doesn't have that deity feel, no? Sardine is...definitely not a good name either though lol

Seiken Densetsu is the JP name of the Mana rpg series. (e.g. Final Fantasy Adventure and Secret/Trials/Legend/etc. of Mana)
Ah thanks, respect. Actually haven't played that series, chose to play FF and Suikoden series instead. Gotta try it sometime. Anywho
@NeoRetro
Please go learn what embodiment actually means. The name of an object does not embody the object, it identifies it. A water elemental (what Undine is in greek mythos) can be said to embody water, but water can't embody water because it IS water. The name "water" IN ANY LANGAUGE can not embody "water", because it's identifying water. Aqua (Latin) = Water (English).
Pedantic? Sure, if that makes ya feel better however don't try to dress up a pig in fine silk when you know that If Aqua had announced to Kazuma that her name was Water your first thoughts would not have been "Ah, that name embodies one of the four classic primal elements, very godlike indeed"

If so Thor would not be one either. (About Aqua not Sardines)

You're not wrong but Thor at least lived up to his name and embodied himself with the image his name gives.
Had Thor just been some bloke of a god that did nothing of notice, yeah "Thor" would also not be much of a god name.
As for Sardines, heh that would be interesting. Or maybe that's not her true name and just something some hungry developer came up with and it stuck with players.

Without stepping into this, but commenting on what I know of various mythologies:
While I can think of a fair number of thunder/lightning gods whose names boil down to something to the effect of "thunder(er)/strik(ing/er)/flash(ing/er)," I can't really think of any water gods whose name translates to something similar, i.e. "watery/drenched/etc.-one." On the other hand, there are plenty whose names are derived from objects or phenomena related to water, i.e. rivers, lakes, the sea, etc. It's very curious. Even the Japanese Suijin feels more like an epithet appended to various other divine entities than a god in itself. :thonk:
