Regarding the economy:
In the chapter where they looted the slaver, Fran says they got a bunch of silver and copper coins, and that the sum is 224 gold.

I think "Gold" is the name of the lowest denomination of currency, as well as the name of the precious metal.

Those thugs causally admitting to multiple crimes. Though I'm not sure if slavery is legal or not. All of the slaves earlier were beast people, but it's not like beast people are looked down on by the country in general, or there wouldn't be nice products made especially for them.

Slavery was mentioned to be illegal already in ch.1 (which was the reason those slavers were in such a rush).
For that matter, actually attempting to murder the adventurer's guild receptionist INSIDE THE GUILD ITSELF? Those guys got off wayyyy too easily with just a beating (and one leg cut off). Even if the guards end up throwing them in the stocks for a while, they should by rights have been looking at a death sentence, or at least the kind of labor camp you only leave old and battered.

I don't see why the receptionist bothered lying about what happened. What actually happened is actually better. Both for the guild's reputation for strength and to investigate those guys' claims.

Yes. Though even if there were no products made for them, that wouldn't mean they were looked down on. Stuff would be made for who will buy it, after all. What shows is that no one, at any point, indicated caring at all about anyone's species. Except that werewolf-like guy who seems to have it out for them.
