@isekaiweeb Yes, I know that this is an extremely late reply, but the correct number is 150,000. 10,000 in the city is also correct, as this is the population of those in the capital itself. The large majority of orcs were sent off to live in various groups throughout the Jura area (hence the names Mountain 1 M, Lake 1 F, etc. referring to what location they live at).

It kind of reminds me of the way Native American names used to work.

And to be fair, Japanese has a lot of "nature names". For instance a girl could be called "Hana", which is pronounced the same as 'flower' and could even be written exactly the same in kanji too (this is not always the case though.) The surname Yamato is often spelled with the 'Mountain' kanji.

I'd have to look at the raws to know for sure, but Mountain 1 F would probably be "Yama Ichi Fu". That actually sounds pretty cool to me, albeit there's going to be a brother/sister who's named Yama Ichi Gu, so it does feel a bit lazy.

So it's like most of the Orcs are named Smith/Tanaka/Ngyuen. It's just going to be an extremely common name.

It seems like a grossly simplified version of the naming convention I use in Planet Zoo.
Which is to say:
Compound (i.e. the area of the zoo the animal was born in, which also shorthands the species), Gender (M or F), Genetics (shorthand to 4 characters).
For instance, a female western lowland gorilla born in the G2 compound with high genetic values might be: G2/F/9998.
In my case though the names aren't necessarily unique. Two animals from the same compound with the same gender and genetics will have exactly the same name... but in that case it doesn't really matter since the names were only labelling for eugenics purposes.

So is it 15k or 150k?
Can you please get the numbers right?
I'm guessing 15k because 150k would be too ridiculous, same with the previous orc army of 200k.
Oh my god, imagine being named Lake 1 F.
At least it sounds better in Japanese.
It could either be "Mizūmi 1-kai"(湖1階) or "Reikuwan F"(レイクワンF).
