Which is rather indicative of a relitively poorly maintained establishment. Even fully mundane individuals with nothing more then vinegar based cleaning supplies should be able to keep a small inn and eatery fairly clean.

The beginning felt more like the perents just didn't know how to properly run and maintain their inn, rather then society as a whole not knowing what proper hygiene and sanitation is.

Excellent point! A sweep and dusting would go a long way. I recall that they are from nobility, and so perhaps they are not schooled in the household arts.
