I'll continue reading because wahey trainwrecks, but the whole "hue hue hue slaves" thing is on the eternal bingo table and so tiresome. It's a garbagely disguised old but modern near-norm fetish up there with women screaming like they're being cut apart by rusty blades during the act, instead of letting out moans like the rest of the countries on the planet.

The training part of this was lowkey interesting, and I like the idea that this world is summoning heroes not only to "kill monsters" but also to steal the better technology of Earth (although, people from Earth should still have a baseline knowledge of how cars and such work - I'm not a car expert but I can at least tell you that you need an engine and some form of oil/gasoline to make a car run). Are they really so dumb that they can't extrapolate information beyond that?

My interest in this ends there. Slave harem? Really? Just a boring, overused plot point. My guy just wants a friend. In 25 years, he never met anyone he could consider a friend? Besides that, why 25 years? WTF is this time skip? It just seems completely pointless, I don't understand it. Even 5 years would be pushing it, but 25?

This is absurd, now they're ACTIVELY encouraging otherwolders to have slave harem :haa: how are they not wiped out from infighting if they have 9000+ of teenagers slaving their population.
haven't you seen this training? the 9000+ became adepts but thousands more dropped out because the training was so hard for whatever god blessing they chose. And 25 years! In that time they had a drop-out rate that high? No wonder they drugged him everytime he gave up to get him to keep going.

[edit]
So I did a search for the novel and took some time to read it. So here's the thing...
I don't think the slave harem exists. The brainwashing potions certainly exist because that tea was super sus, but the slave harem seems like just bait tossed to a horny solo teenager. I got throught the terrible Volume 1 and didn't bother to keep reading because damn is this dude a passive downer. It feels like the manga changed things though so who knows what the future holds

25 years? Is this is mistranslation?
No, it seriously took him 25 years of constant training. That time period is referenced quite a bit in the Light Novel.

It really isn't about the slave harem at all. LN spoiler, but it is only ever a motivation for volume 1. It never happens. It is nearly impossible for it to ever happen, since the meaning for it dies.

The 25 years is absurdly long because he took an absurdly long time to become an Adept. Others get it done much faster or do leave like he almost did every year prior. There is a bit more about how long it took him that it gets into that is about how magic works in this world. Just know that the LN does somewhat explain why it took him a long time. Your own mileage may vary on if 25 years is absurdly long.

The blessings are from different Gods, so there is a God of the Forest, etc.

So it isn't just a blessing of Life magic but from the God of Life. Much like others can heal, Life mages aren't strictly limited to just healing alone. There are also artifacts and alchemy that can do things.

I'll just have to disagree on how you viewed the LN, but to each their own.

Also, not sure the God of Life needs to use the brainwashing tea. If the God of Life really wanted to, they could just speak it aloud, after all.

And if you read volume 1 fully, how did you miss him just throwing away any want of a slave harem? That was almost the entire point of the epilogue?

there's an epilogue? didn't see that at the place I read it. Would explain why it seemed to skip stuff randomly.

Ahh, yeah, that would do it.

The group from JPtranslations for fun has the LN translated and as an EPUB, which is how I read it.

Anyway, the epilogue includes this:

“…I’d prefer that.” Konoe’s voice was steady. More than gold coins, more than a fleeting dream of a slave harem, he wanted something simpler. “I like drinking tea with you.”

I understood it that many people? most people? everyone? can own slaves. But by becoming adept, he'd be allowed to (legally) use love potions (it would probably be whole class of mind altering drugs/magic in a more serious scenario) on valid targets, in this case slaves.
Kinda like gun laws - even if you can legally own and use it, you cannot shoot random people.
Gun laws are a good example. What makes her sus is that she isn't marketing gun training for protection, but marketing it to shoot people. At least that's how I view the love potion part.

An equivalent what she's saying would be:
1. Gun training is good, you can get rich because of high demand. (Normal marketing)
2. Gun training is good because you can protect yourself. (Selfish interest)
3. Gun training is good because you can shoot people. (Forcing your will on others)

She wants more Life Adepts. Life Adepts are exceedingly rare. Life Adepts also aren't all about healing, if the training wasn't tipping you off.

Spoiler from an LN reader, the slave harem is a lie.
more spoilers please

Okay, I had at one point a long comment and then a crash happened. Anyway, it died and I'm feeling a little dead about that. So I'm going to do two smaller spoilers rather than Volume 1. Yes, it was longer than these two.

The harem bit is a lot more spoilery than the other, just as a heads up.
Magic and Alchemy. So the magic and abilities you can use is determined by your blessing. So blessings can be determining of what you can do, but the breadth of abilities isn't so clean. Yes, every Life Adept can use the same spellbook, so to speak. Yes, Life magic includes healing, purification, and the ability to diagnose and protect life. But that also means detecting life, enhancing bodies, and using divine lightning.

Because the God of Life is the chief of the gods, the Supreme Diety. Members who take their blessing to become an Adept of Life are as directly opposed as possible to the God of Evil. While other Adepts do exist, Life Adepts are the super soldiers, the last bastions of humanity. They heal and harm, boon and bane. Base level for Life Adepts are essentially all people with reaction times closer to computers. They move at mach speeds, and are one man armies.

So every god has a blessing, and each of those blessings have a color. White is the color of the God of Life.
MC's spear is white, which is very atypical. Every other adept does not have a pure white weapon. This is because desire, love, and the like color the magic you use. In fact, that desire, is what gives every adept not our MC something called Unique Magic. Almost anyone can gain Unique Magic, even monsters can have it, but Unique magic warps the rules and realities. They break rules, and can be fundamentally outside the scope of the Blessing of the God that was given to them. MC managed to train himself to such an extent that he managed to gain the title of Adept without having a Unique Magic.

As a final note, all monsters have the blessing of the evil god.

So, first things first, this is a Harem story. Each volume so far focuses on one girl. Our Elf Girl is the most important, but she isn't exactly the first to like him. That is next volume's thing.

Also, the Slave Harem is a lie. It was solely because of his wish to have people around him because he died alone, and his family life is best described as mentally abusive. Sure, he has some connections; but they are limited to his Teacher, the God of Life, and an adept who graduated and he hasn't seen since. All MC wanted was really to belong and be longed for.

So, he'll accept a contract for a thousand gold to protect her city for a month. The elf here, over his constant contact within the month she is around worms her way into his heart. She acts righteously, and her devotion to her city is the first chink in his armor. He can't understand people acting out of duty and love, not personal benefit. She remains at his side through most of his time there, and doesn't understand why because he already accepted the contract. There is no need to butter him up, but his actions speak louder to her and her people. Sure, he was paid for the job, but he has no demands beyond his contract. He helps without reserve. He saved her and the city. She has no reason in his eyes to love him, even though she does. His actions are much closer to a Hero than the average Adept.

He feels he has no worth beyond the job he does, and through the warmth the city and her actions begins to let him feel that affection. He doesn't believe he's doing anything but his job, but he begins to long for the warmth they shared simply sitting together. That longing, that desire, slowly comes to the head when our elf leaves his side near the end of the contract. She helps the city find a particular seed that the city was known for that almost was wiped out. That absence makes him realize he wants her by his side. After certain events, he rushes to her and ends up in combat where that longing saves his life. She tinged his heart gold. That warmth, that love, saved him.

That love helps push him to start moving in certain ways.

Also, as a small piece here, the current main girl by volume
Volume one is our Elf here.
Volume two is a red headed dwarf girl
Volume three is a blue haired dragon girl
Volume four is his teacher

As I awake from my slumber and sit down by my trusty internet-connected device, I read, a story in drawing, text on panels. Within the epic, is a world of wonder and magic, the likes of which man could never experience, for it is the creation of mind and fantasy.

There, as I read, I think to myself "What is the deal with all these storied elements?" and, stuck pondering for hours as days pass, contemplating the moral implications of a fantasy world unreal, I eventually succumb to exhaustion. Tragically, the human vessel, weak in its flesh, is unable to stay awake for longer; and so, the 53 hours I have spent, unmoving, fixated at the brightly lit screen, consumed by manic thought, comes to a halt.

The creation of mind, in a world unborn, fantastical by its nature, drawn from the swirling depths of another's mind, consume me with their ever-present dread--for the boundaries and laws of thine is for me to ever contemplate.

This was a crazy long chapter for nothing about the MC to really develop. Even his loneliness and wanting to solve that so badly he'll resort to slavery feels surface level. He doesn't really act that degenerate or that lonely. Just like a scene of showing him envying the bonds his classmates have made would've been nice. I also really don't understand the system in play. I'm kinda curious what the academy even is? They wanted everyone for the potential of adopted their industrial tech, but they seemed pretty prepared to not recieve anyone capable of passing along that information at all. And then they just moved on to reincarnation school.
