Gun laws are a good example. What makes her sus is that she isn't marketing gun training for protection, but marketing it to shoot people. At least that's how I view the love potion part.

An equivalent what she's saying would be:
1. Gun training is good, you can get rich because of high demand. (Normal marketing)
2. Gun training is good because you can protect yourself. (Selfish interest)
3. Gun training is good because you can shoot people. (Forcing your will on others)
IMO we have to look at it from the POV of a society where slavery is legal - so i assume things like forcing your will on slaves isn't really a big issue.
And if we are talking about difference between:
  • owning slaves (common, many people can, low risk for the state, i assume some laws regulating slavery exist - so not like anyone can enslave everyone left and right, and if they try to it would be severely punished),
  • being able to use mind altering drugs/magic - because love potions essentially are one (highly regulated, high risk to the state - examples i can quickly think of is turbo loyal slave army, forcing assassins to go on suicide missions, or mind controlling free people/nobles - all of which are kinda doable even on love potions only),
then imo equivalent with guns isn't really "you can shoot people", but something along the "you can actively hunt criminals instead of only defending yourself" - basically way higher level of trust placed on said person.

I feel while excessive in some points, this the right way to start an obviously sus isekai:
1- They summoned people after their knowledge, not due to weird cheat codes conveniently they get
2- There is no guarantee they will get someone knowledgeable enough or eager; they summoned hundreds and consistently do that
3- The planet is huge and there is clearly a demand for adepts and likely healers seeing the elf girl. They convince the people of what's most profitable for themselves and for the summoned ones
4- The goddess bothers encouraging and calming them down too rather than a near complete passive role. Even if she is actually evil, that helps

They basically don't have the guarantee they will get a Chosen One, but instead they worked around that. I have the same issues people do with the otherwise derivative nature and the 25 years training, but otherwise seeing an author bother with all those tiny things make me feel encouraged of this one.

Does a blue haired dragon girl have a dragon form?
No. They just are essentially humans with dragon like features.
Don't expect to see her for a bit, even if chapter 1 of the manga was chapter 1 of LN's volume 1.
These are the non-cover images of the characters. Sparing the most most recent, given her addition is a bit of a special case.

So, each character has a bit of a damsel in distress moment. Unique magic is as much a burden as it is a reality breaker. By having a unique magic, that desire becomes so strong it can consume them. Knowing what the unique magic is sourced from gives you a bit of control over the person involved. Not like magically knowing a true name, but knowing the drive that will allow you to manipulate them.

The dwarf became an adept 10 years ago, and had a crush on the MC she never spoke of. She returns after the events of the first volume in part due to a disaster where she almost died running headlong into a dungeon alone to crush the source of an attack. This was part of the chain of attacks that lead to volume 1's issues. The reason behind her attack ties into her own craving, that desire that consumes them that creates a unique-magic. So, our red-headed dwarf longed to find something so much she gained magical mirrors that allow her to view, control, and command a battlefield. Of course, being confronted by that craving caused her to freeze up in a bad situation.

Our Dragon-girl of blue has a much different issue. Her Unique magic was already in place before she arrived to get adept training, and rushed through the training. Every new adept is given a request to go there, because inside lies a sealed Demon King, immortal and undying for a thousand years. Any hint, any way to finally kill that Demon King was important. I'll leave this about her Unique magic, it is passed down in her family, because that unique magic is what is sealing the Demon King. It is not without cost though.

Okay, I had at one point a long comment and then a crash happened. Anyway, it died and I'm feeling a little dead about that. So I'm going to do two smaller spoilers rather than Volume 1. Yes, it was longer than these two.

The harem bit is a lot more spoilery than the other, just as a heads up.
Magic and Alchemy. So the magic and abilities you can use is determined by your blessing. So blessings can be determining of what you can do, but the breadth of abilities isn't so clean. Yes, every Life Adept can use the same spellbook, so to speak. Yes, Life magic includes healing, purification, and the ability to diagnose and protect life. But that also means detecting life, enhancing bodies, and using divine lightning.

Because the God of Life is the chief of the gods, the Supreme Diety. Members who take their blessing to become an Adept of Life are as directly opposed as possible to the God of Evil. While other Adepts do exist, Life Adepts are the super soldiers, the last bastions of humanity. They heal and harm, boon and bane. Base level for Life Adepts are essentially all people with reaction times closer to computers. They move at mach speeds, and are one man armies.

So every god has a blessing, and each of those blessings have a color. White is the color of the God of Life.
MC's spear is white, which is very atypical. Every other adept does not have a pure white weapon. This is because desire, love, and the like color the magic you use. In fact, that desire, is what gives every adept not our MC something called Unique Magic. Almost anyone can gain Unique Magic, even monsters can have it, but Unique magic warps the rules and realities. They break rules, and can be fundamentally outside the scope of the Blessing of the God that was given to them. MC managed to train himself to such an extent that he managed to gain the title of Adept without having a Unique Magic.

As a final note, all monsters have the blessing of the evil god.

So, first things first, this is a Harem story. Each volume so far focuses on one girl. Our Elf Girl is the most important, but she isn't exactly the first to like him. That is next volume's thing.

Also, the Slave Harem is a lie. It was solely because of his wish to have people around him because he died alone, and his family life is best described as mentally abusive. Sure, he has some connections; but they are limited to his Teacher, the God of Life, and an adept who graduated and he hasn't seen since. All MC wanted was really to belong and be longed for.

So, he'll accept a contract for a thousand gold to protect her city for a month. The elf here, over his constant contact within the month she is around worms her way into his heart. She acts righteously, and her devotion to her city is the first chink in his armor. He can't understand people acting out of duty and love, not personal benefit. She remains at his side through most of his time there, and doesn't understand why because he already accepted the contract. There is no need to butter him up, but his actions speak louder to her and her people. Sure, he was paid for the job, but he has no demands beyond his contract. He helps without reserve. He saved her and the city. She has no reason in his eyes to love him, even though she does. His actions are much closer to a Hero than the average Adept.

He feels he has no worth beyond the job he does, and through the warmth the city and her actions begins to let him feel that affection. He doesn't believe he's doing anything but his job, but he begins to long for the warmth they shared simply sitting together. That longing, that desire, slowly comes to the head when our elf leaves his side near the end of the contract. She helps the city find a particular seed that the city was known for that almost was wiped out. That absence makes him realize he wants her by his side. After certain events, he rushes to her and ends up in combat where that longing saves his life. She tinged his heart gold. That warmth, that love, saved him.

That love helps push him to start moving in certain ways.

Also, as a small piece here, the current main girl by volume
Volume one is our Elf here.
Volume two is a red headed dwarf girl
Volume three is a blue haired dragon girl
Volume four is his teacher
kinda wish the god of life would be part of his harem

I mean, this is only four volumes in. There might be more or less than those I talked about, but the biggest part is if the character has had a volume with themselves as the heroine. That puts the Avatar of the God of Life on the short list. I have to say it like that, because that isn't her in totality.

The amount of suspicion on the God of Life is kind of funny.

Ok, just from the fuckin premise this manga is already trash. Slave harem via love potions? Fuckin disgusting honestly, no wonder no one loved the dude in his previous life. Absolute fucking incel shit. Second, the dude lived in this world for 25 years, and he still doesn't have a grasp of the monetary value the money in this world has? I get that he spent most of it probably training, but even still you'd at least have to have a basic understanding of the money in this world after 25 FUCKING YEARS. This kind of lack of story logic shows that this is low grade slop.

Oh no, the guy who lived in the training school/academy for 25 years who never had to worry about money for that time gets a brief explanation on living costs. Do you have an issue with the sheltered rich noble not really having monetary sense for the commoner?

Also, you are really putting the cart before the horse on the Slave Harem. 'Dude' died alone after being abandoned by his parents and left under the abusive care of his family. So manufacturing love and creating a contractual reason to remain together is what he considers his hope to feel love. It's supposed to be seen as sad. Yes it is cliche, but Cinderella stories exist and will continue.

The things you complain about have logic to them. Just because you don't immediately see it doesn't mean much.

It's also chapter 1. Things can change, you know.

I actually do consider this kind of writing challenging the Isekai genre, in the sense that the author actually being aware of the basic bottom of the barrel critiques that even idiots who read manga can make is basically a betrayal of the genre convention :dogkek:

Doing that while also blatantly baiting a "fake" ethics washed slave harem that is visible from the first what, five pages? Almost avant-guarde

I'm morbidly curious where the author is going with this. Is it going to be super cringy and shitty or have something to say? Only time will tell.
I think its pretty obvious lol. Its just going to be shield hero in spirit but with a marginally better writer. Though a lot of times these guys don't write half as good once they leave the first volume or two they already sketched out in the initial manuscript.

Hm? I don't think the genre was matched with the story, but it's still chapter 1 so let's wait for another chapter

Mc seems like bad news, 25 years of training just so he could have a harem of mind controlled slaves?

He never thought to think of the moral implications, and how no matter how he tries, he will never gain the true affections of those he enslaves?

He never thought, "this is kinda fucked up now that I think about it"

Big ass world, can tank a coal power plant or twenty. Also they could probably use magic to capture carbon.

They could also use a paradox/simcity fan.

Seems interesting, I have no qualms with the slavery trope, but it would be nice to see if MC gets a foidette without resorting to it. Just by being a good guy (tm) or at the very least creating some dependency with the knife ears he'll save next chapter. I find concrning how most of the libs reading this can't empathize with someone who had a rough upbringing emotionally speaking, and without a contention net around him. Oh well.
Get that "Lib" crap out of here, people politics don't change the fact that he thinks drugging women to be his harem slave is a good alternative to socializing with others

I think you got "The Wrong Way To Use Healing Magic" confused with "Redo of Healer". The Wrong Way To Use Healing Magic is an isekai that's pretty good in my opinion, doesn't have the slave stuff in it. Redo of Healer is the one with slave harem.
That's why they said "worse version"

We dont really know if this slop will compare in shittyness to redo of healer

This is a very weird hook... like do they want us to hate read it? 'Cause it is not that great of a "hate hook" and many of the other tropes feel rushed in this first chapter. So, it is this weird chimera of shallow hooks.

God japenese authors are so braindead. Is "slave harem with hypnosis potions" really the best motivation you could have thought of? Like imagine drawing 50 pages of wonderful art but the story is literally some guy trying to be a discount charismatic Genghis Khan. What a joke.
