Wait the beginning chapters said the brother had a different mother than MC, so I assumed that was who he was going to see, but it's just Claire's parents? Where is his biological mother and why haven't we seen her yet? Why even bother with the plot point of him having a different bio mother if it never comes into play?

Luke's biological mother was Dad's Ex-Wife. She's still alive, but she and Dad divorced. Dad then remarried Claire, and Claire loved Luke like her own child, so Luke viewed and treated her as his Mother more than his own biological mum. His own bio mum is a rather cold and prickly person herself, and Luke is actually almost afraid of her. She and Dad were a purely political marriage, and honestly a really bad personality combination, so it's better for everyone that they divorced.
This Grandpa is Claire's father. So technically not Luke's biological Grandfather, but he also genuinely loves Luke like his own grandchild.
