Pretty much everything in this story is hand-waving.

In the case of the mantis, the parasitization was a clever twist, but the delivery of the twist was pathetic.

Janky translation. The parasites clearly was controlling the mantis, why does the dialogue say "human"?
I don't know what the OG raw said, but I can only assume it actually said "the worms parasited [that guy] (the mantis)", not "a human".

This manga really lacks any kind of compelling hook. Since the start, both the God and the MC are kinda just going with the flow without much thought or care, is like even they don't care about the story lol The story is just a bunch of "and then" events.

It's called a 'Robinsonade' after the famous Robinson Crusoe novel. The clever things done by the protag to survive is the story by itself.
