Nah, it's super weird that she seems to already be pretty into him. Especially since the author brought up his original desk mate as a possible love interest. Why force a love triangle on a relationship that's going to progress so quickly?

wouldnt say sinister but more just straight up cluelessness and lack of any semblance of self esteem. I got bros overseas in korea and they told me its VERY common for a lot of guys to do dumb stuff like this and fumble
