People seem to be missing the crux of the issue of why Xiao Lu's mom was mad and tethering it to hee being gay when that's not the point. By this point she already KNOWS that her daughter is gay and as per Tong Tong's mom was coming to terms with it and becoming more accepting.

The issue and reason she's pissed is that she DIDN'T want Xiao Lu to date Tong Tong and finding out that the person she was talking to and opening up and confiding things wasn't an uninvolved person 3rd person, but someone with a vested interest. It's the feeling of betrayal and manipulation about the whole thing that's pissed her off. Like even if it was for a good cause or reason, they still lied to and manipulated her after earning her trust.

No this woman has been proven to be dangerously controlling, lying to her is objectively the right move until they are sure beyond a shadow of a doubt that she’s changed. And judging by her trying to drag her adult daughter away she clearly hasn’t yet.

I'd probably start questioning why they felt like they had to hide this stuff from me. Either it was something in my behavior, a communication mishap or an assumption on their side. If it's one of the later two it can probably be resolved fairly quickly but the first one is tricky to solve.
