Yeah I don't get the shipping either since it was made pretty clear that Tong Tong's mom is VERY straight not just given her tilt towards fawning over a ton of male actors but also her very direct self-intro where she SAYS she's straight and has no idea how to proceed giving Tong Tong any good advice.

I can see them becoming Vitriolic Best Friends with Tong Tong's mom helping Luxi's mom get a better job and sort stuff out in her day to day life*.

* I read the manga over a second time and JESUS CHRIST has Luxi's mom lived a rough life. Besides the flashback in chapter 54, some of the early chapters heavily imply that she works multiple work-shifts a day in different jobs so it's likely that she's working 12hr at best or 16hr to 18hr at worst which is absolutely horrific and would explain why she always looks anxious and fatigued.

Anyway, for the sake of her daughter she took lots of reference about same sex romance advices and the rest are history. Now, I'm positively sure she's straight, just an open minded woman who loves and supports her daughter with all her heart.

It's sad that what happened to Luxi's mom is a reality and still happening to this day. Some parents provide for their children not as an obligation but as an investment when the time comes, when they can work for them and demand for money every month as a repayment for the years of feeding their child/children.

I don't really get that vibe from Luxi's mom. My take is that she just wants Luxi to not have to go through the poverty and the limits it imposes on you and your life as well as the trauma. I 100% that she needed(and still needs) a friend to confide in.
