The 31st Consort - Vol. 2 Ch. 8.2

So I went back and read over what happened so far, so here's what I believe is happening, for anyone who's confused:

The 11th consort wants to be queen at all costs, and has the court lady (who's supposed to be unbiased in all this) under her thumb. She ordered one of the court lady's maids to hire some men and attack and kill the 31st consort, which they tried and failed to do. The 31st was rescued by the king and was taken to the 2nd consort's mansion (who already withdrew from all this), where she'll be hiding out until the big soiree thing that decides who's gonna be the big winner.

During that maid's interrogation, the 11th consort was ousted as the mastermind. But the court lady tried to play it off like the maid was mostly to blame, that she was acting out of vengeance against the 31st for stealing the 11th's spotlight, and that both her and the 11th consort weren't directly involved with all this shit. The king pretends to play along and tells the court lady to report to the 11th about the "maid's revenge" story, but that she'll need to be loyal to the king for now on and help them out, and not be a bitch.

So of course the court lady is a bitch (and good at acting) and triple-crosses the king, telling the 11th everything that happened, including that she's supposed to be betraying her now. Some other maids also report that the 31st is probably hiding at one of the withdrawn consort's mansions and that she is probably not at her burned-down house.

Now this is where things get interesting: rather than suspect every withdrawn consort, the 11th believes the 31st is with one of the lower consorts (btw the higher numbered a consort is, the higher-ranked in society they are). She doesn't believe that the 2nd consort is involved at all. Which is the 11th's obvious downfall, since her bias against the lower class makes her blind to the fact that the 31st is, in fact, hiding out with the the big shots (actually with one of the top 3).

Oh and the king already knows the court lady's a greedy bitch and is setting things up so that the 11th will be confronted at the soiree.

Oh and the 31st is just like "the fuck what is going on". Just like me!

This second consort. Wasn't she the one who always held her pride high and was indifferent to the King? I remember seeing her face turn away when she and the King had a sitdown with tea during one of his rants. Did she have a character change?

And I love this story so much. It's such a refreshing change from the cliches and tropes. Everything the plot develops in a way that typical shoujo's veer into annoying tropes based on misunderstanding, miscommunications, or unrealistic plotlines, this turns them on their heads and takes us into a more realistic storytelling. Plus it's simply a wholesome and fun romance.

@Cynic what I forgot to mention was that the "balance", if he was OP wouldn't he already have cleaned his court. he's only making a move now bc of MC which is a nonsensical reason for motivation. with how he confronts his consorts - overbearing and logical reasoning, why didn't he just do that before? his kind of depth is not worthy of OP abilities, even if he is king, he didn't struggle with his cabinet and it's been "smooth sailing", if it weren't for "tradition" wouldn't he just sweep MC off her feet?
an interesting thought is that type of shot gun wedding stories and the struggles they have bc of social position/propriety, etc.
I'm in a love-hate-relationship with this story. the plot of genuine and well thought out but their are loopholes that causes my outcry

@catbot158 you might be right but my take is concerning the whole situation, the court lady at the end says to herself that 11th consort is not her true master.

If the author goes for a more complex take on the story, the culprit will most likely be a 2nd consort. She withdrew just before a 31st consort was attacked and now intends to stay as a her teacher. If we go from the most obvious speculation, that would mean that 2nd consort would try to gain 31st trust but somewhere along the way will make a blunder and expose her self.

Just one of the possibilities among many but the court lady has already exposed the presence of another culprit.

damn it's gonna be a big plot twist if that actually the real case. the 2nd consort motive is indeed vague tho. why would she want to be the 'sword' when she have the opportunity to be a queen? moreover the king is trusted her with feria 24/7 since she said she would like to be her teacher. it would be easier to attack and incite feria by being her friend

I forget who the other consorts are. lol It's been a while since I last read this... The fluff disappeared and we get a lot of underhanded dealings and stuff now. I wonder if the 2nd consort really is evil or she just genuinely doesn't want this marriage for herself which could be a true case. It's not something wholly unbelievable.

Came back to reread this after the time passed. Hoping to finally see the next chapter soon😭 I wonder why people are thinking the 2nd consort is hiding behind a mask? Did you not see her at the tea party?😂 She clearly sees how noble & intelligent Feria is and how much the king cares for her, so she backed down to show her support to them both. I hope the 11th consort and the court maid get executed soon.

Based on the novel it is mention that the 2nd consort is a shy person. Which so far I don’t see it at all, not in the novel and not in the manga XP it just a convenient point to give reason.

That's why the second consort never show any emotion every time its her time to have a spendid time with the King. She wasn't interested in him but she's interested in our FL
