Ugh, also anyone else feel their feelings seems to go rather quick ahead? Nothing bad but it felt a little rushed halfway through.

It's hard to feel like you did the right thing when you get punished for it. That has more to do with how unreasonably strict the Japanese education system is, but it's perfectly understandable why MC would feel like having helped that girl was a mistake
