@jonathaneze It's more obvious from lady Rifa since the first concubines give the jewellery to their attendants. Just like Maomao got one from Gyoukyou when she was recruited to her palace, or when the bug man gave her one upon seeing her without the freckles, making her his attendant as well, at least in name. Getting to serve the first concubines is a big promotion in all senses in that place, so I suppose Rifa wanted to reward Maomao by recognising her officially. Apparently she didn't care about Gyoukyou's reaction, but that's given since they are competitors.

I kind of feel receiving the cheaper trinkets from the guests can't mean so much. Maybe it's just the maximum sort of flirting allowed during that special day, for outsiders allowed in. However, it also needs to be remembered that women from the harem are awarded to successful military commanders and such, so perhaps it's also a sign such a man might have his eyes on a specific woman. However, that dude, for example, had a bunch of those sticks, which lessens their meaning, no matter how you look at it. Maybe it's more like a game for those men.
