Even in the past, the time when mage concept is an individual, Traumen is the one who united the all of the scatter mage, regardless of their character hoping they could reform. (Its not spoiler. He said the reason after he caging him. But not mentioned in manga).

The conversation isn't great, yeah. He could just spend 5 seconds more explaining that stubborn people who can't improve by themselves will be lured by Demigod, so unless the old guy can get stronger and prove that he can stand up to Demigod, he'll die right there. Considering the previous apostle was from the traumen rings or whatever secret society it's not a far fetched claim, either.
