@ThunderaMaou : from their reactions to her cleaning, and saying she cleaned there as well, I get the feeling that it was not supposed to be occurring there, I mean if he was paying for her to be taken care of that should include the servants doing their jobs as well, and hopefully draws them to look into what was going on.
I mean her showing up in the middle of the night unannounced should be a huge red flag anyay, but the butler likely has heightened senses that are telling him she is not saying everything, and she is showing several signs of being an abused child like how she closed her eyes at the end of this chapter fearing being hit.
@Soultra375 : So far it feels like the likely answer is pain from losing her mother + "realizing" he would be a horrible father, and maybe that his place would not be a good environment. Plus if the foster family has a good reputation, combined with a healthy fear of displeasing him, it would be natural to assume they would do a good job raising her.
