I DO however have a problem with Rurins reaction. She was like a deer in the headlights, just letting everything happen to her. No black dragon except her mother ever treated her gently, even her grandfather turned cold (outwardly, due to a wrong sense of protection). Why did she even let them take her? She may be young by dragon standards, but by now she should know what she wants from her life and stand up for it. but no, just like a doll she lets herself get dragged back.
IMHO agreed that the lack of agency for Rurin rankles. Not only are none of the other characters caring about what
she wants, but
she herself isn't, either.
I also agree that the premise of this arc isn't too bad, but the execution has been shaky. Rurin's backstory was good and emotionally affecting but the present-day events have unfortunately devolved into an
idiot plot - drama "kept in motion solely by virtue of the fact that everybody involved is an idiot". Or at least, everyone sure is
acting like idiots.
The other black dragons are
fully aware of how Ell can fuck them up and yet they're still going to play with fire here? Ell is - well, I don't want to be
too hard on him, since he's still confronting his own feelings and everything throughout this, but still - he's just going to let them take Rurin, just like that, after everything they've been through? And Rurin still completely wants to stay with Ell, enough that she refuses Jerkbag's advances, but somehow also
not enough to where she amounts any resistance to being put through this, at all, even a little?
Maddening. Can we have our couple bash some heads and get to kissing already please?
I swear, if this manhwa ends once they get together...
