yeah, seems like a little overreaction for him to become so grim and depressed when he has Zoe. I get him wanting revenge but he should still be able to enjoy things when he has the other person that he likes/loves still around.
And just as Zoe sees more and more people as not-potatoes, and as Garland starts thinking about and enjoying doing other stuff than killing.It's always heartwarming to see a character all grown up 🥲
Joke aside, it was predictable that Lucas would go that way at some point. He never cared much for others beyond his friends, and the experience of using peoples as pawns again and again likely didn't help that.
I wouldn't be surprised if the reason he had no issue going after the citizens like that is because he is starting to see people has just moving part of their organisation, not individuals who may or may not agree with their rulers/boss.
