I am not surprised the horse could know that little shit is a waste of oxygen and probably contagious.

Who is Guillaume again?
A ramus from the mirror country, he could make only small solid air constructs... I forgot if he is alive, but the pope does have authority over the tower of that country, so maybe he could replicate the ability... but why she kept that a secret is another thing.

Dear Wizard Scans, thanks for the latest instalment!

A wordy troublesome chapter, but things are good for the most part, well done. Although, mind if I draw your attentions to a few places?

Since this scene likely took place soon after Cyril's escape but long before Demi witnesses his death over a year later, the いなくなって here is likely simply "gone away" and not "dead-gone away". Maxim still thinking Cyril is alive in the present supports this. Thus:

"Aren't you lonely... without your younger brother around?"

The surrounding syntax could be confusing, but I believe 居心地 isn't about this Ramus Squad being "secure", but that it's "comfortable" or "feels like home".

I note this because 居心地 was just used by Demi on Page 37 1st panel, about how even though a place entirely to your favour/convenience exists, you can still look for somewhere that's "comfortable/homely" (ie a place to call home if you will).

Hence pages later:

"It's because of you... this squad is becoming like home (to me)."

Onto my own comments

This month Ch 27 came out, and overall The Land of Slaves arc had not disappoint.
Furthermore, Ch 18 is the slowest part of the whole arc, so from here on things will start accelerating again. The ride ahead gets fun.

Thanks for the chapter! I honestly thought Demi was one of them angst characters with chip on their shoulders but it seems like he has his shit figured out.
Good for him, good for him.
Demi's a lady.

It's subtle, but for how aloof Demi is, she's always struck me as someone who has it in her to look after others (but Poppy gets on her bad side)

And seeing as she's the de-facto deputy to Lucas, I got the feeling all the times they've worked together has her steadily approving of his position.

So when this chapter first came out with her as the focus, I was glad I was on the right track. Though I thought she was a thief and not a slave farmer before the Pope recruited her

Ok so a person's ability but now a weapon has that ability...so we turning people into weapons now? or what?
When a Ramus dies his/her ability returns to the Tower and can be accessed by the master of the Tower. Since the Pope now controls the Mirror Tower, he's able to use the powers of the Rami kept by the Tower by imbuing it on an object. We've actually seen this with the Mirror Ramus' teleportation powers before. Guillaume's powers presumably ended up the same way and got imbued into the knife.

This raises the question - what about the useless Rami who got wiped out? I think it would be funny as hell if someone in the Papal States ended up with a tool that can generate KNIVES OUT OF THIN AIR... after about an hour, lol.

I'm so glad we finally get a chapter about Demi. I always thought her ability was the most useful (that isn't a direct combat ability), and she was always a bit standoffish with the others, so I wondered what was going on with her.
Yeah, in a world like this, being able to see everything could be horrific  I can see why she's reluctant to get close to others. Also I've noticed since the very beginning that she treats Miura a little bit differently than the others, now we know why. (I also think she likes him, but that's another thing). Seeing the world as being full of shit, with a couple of nice things sprinkled in is basically the same as how Lucas described it too.

Makes me wonder how much Demi knows about the grand scheme of things. The Pope seems to share a bit more with her than the others, probably because it would be pointless to try to keep secrets from her.

Oh, I just caught the symbolism on pages 38-39. On p. 38, Demi is standing in the rain while telling the siblings to start walking and go as far as they can, while they are standing inside.
On p. 39, they've come out from under the roof, and they're getting wet too. What a nice way of showing they took Demi's words to heart, without actually saying a single word.
