Hen (変) does indeed mean weird, but she says it in kana so she's just making that sound without any meaning attached to it. So it's really just ehen of hen, hence ahem of hems.

She's a supporting character. I don't think paparazzi would be crawling out to get her. But the rationale isn't important, I'm just talking about how reputation and perception is paramount in a face culture and this is reflected in Japan's libel laws.
Sorry, by "her" I mean Yamada; like at the culture festival she couldn't participate for the same reason and here an article could create unintended consequences.
I agree with your point about face culture.

Oh, I'm talking about Yamada too. She's a supporting character in the show she's on. In my eyes, if a school newspaper creates some kind of buzz in the press or general public, that's pretty laughable. It's really that they want to control her image in every single way, since she's a product of theirs.

I think it is as well some think that old ppl mumble a lot.... im pretty sure I saw some doing this.... like "Yoishoto" and stuff like this lol
