Like they said, the first 70~ or so chapters are painful because it's a cringe gag manga, but all that shit we see the character go though enable actual character growth. After those first chapters it becomes more of a SoL with actual development, utilizing the cast of unique characters and their relationships with each other that were carefully cultivated over many chapters.

God, I love these two goobers so god damn much. She's been gradually growing more fond of him since seeing his drawing, at the earliest, maybe even when they worked together to help salvage Kanzaki and Hara's private moment in the library.

Do your best to ignore some of the 'creepy' things, because he is an 8th grader, after all. According to the wiki, he is 13 at the start of the manga. Concessions need to be made. Reminder Norio-sensei is a woman and she clearly understands boys are like this, even if their intentions are pure. He's certainly more pure than Senpai Pick-up Artist (Nanjou Haruya), though he is a better person than he was initially presented as, too.

They're all just kids trying to make their way through childhood. Some of them are lucking out and meeting their soulmates already, gradually growing closer to each other in the process.
