Ichikawa loves that she's an actress
like everybody, ichikawa was brought up to believe that it's really important that girls have career "dreams" and follow them, and that nothing is worse than a man causing a girl to change for his sake. he's uncritically accepted that that is what's best for her, and since he loves her, that's what he wants to happen.

meanwhile, for one thing, these career dreams generally come from (1) seeking the approval of people with expectations of them and (2) seeking the attention of men the career gives access to. the polar opposite of those great men who do have that kind of drive that deserves the respect of others (but will press on with or without it).

whether this manga shows it or not, the "good end" for ichikawa is paying close enough attention to yamada to realize that it's actually better for her to submit to his judgment, change for his sake, fulfill female role.

Gotta love that most of us agree, Ichikawa is dope. Pulling that move to save both him and his girlfriend a lot of grief, incredible. I salute thee

Does anyone know of other sites that people comment on the chapters or anywhere else that people post and talk about the chapters? I'd like to talk about the light novel and need help getting some insight on it around chapter 99 special prequel of the story.

lots of himejoshis i follow on twitter love bokuyaba saying its yuri, and i wasn't completely sold on that argument despite being a himejoshi myself and liking the series, but i have to admit this was yuri as hell

editing in my stance since the class is confused:

ok, so there are three points in my argument, starting off broad and vague then going to specific

1) where a lot of straight romantic comedy and drama works are defined by a progression of courtship, a majority of yuri works are more interested in the exploration of relationships that already exist, whether it be a steady couple, a pair engaged in physical intemacy despite not being official, or long term friends that can more closely share the same space than traditional boy and girl friendship would be able to allow. of course a lot of romcoms stick around after the main pair confesses (ie bokuyaba) so this is why this is a broad condition

2) yuri works consistently focus on how social forces constrain or set norms for couples. the relationship has to be negotiated to fit into a wider world because it is deemed different or bad. bokuyaba shares this as anna and kyou are right now working around how anna has to fit as a "pure actress," without scandal

3) lipstick is a traditionally feminine object. the lipstick is applied to kyoutaro, a feminizing act. the lipstick remains the focus of the scene as the kiss is also framed as a way to apply the lipstick to anna.

q.e.d. regardles of author intent, at this moment bokuyaba falls under the framing, context and content of a yuri work
This is stupid.

Okay, that was actually really smart and I love the ending with the two of them. One of my new favorite chapters.
I don't remember well, so correct me if I am wrong.

All of this secrecy about their relationship is to placate the toxic idol industry's dumb no relationship rules right?
Not an idol, but a child actress. There aren't the hard and fast toxic idol rules, but it's Japan and she's kinda sexualized (heck, even in the Manga extra chapters 😂) and she's even been a gravure model. The reality is with social media and situations like that, the less there is for people to gossip about the better. We see it even in the US. Social media has pushed for parasoxiap relationships and a level of ownership between fans and anyone remotely famous with a following. Those crowds care more about the life choice of their object of affection than said person's parents, and they're incredibly judgmental.

One if the reasons the idol industry is toxic is because it pushes for this and tries to take advantage of it. The industry WANTS their consumers obessed with idols so they feed into what's already a naturally toxic reality (it's literally adding gasoline to a fire in a room of chlorine gas).

Bet some readers are gonna be thinking that hiding their relationship is stupid and forget about the reasons

But regardless more importantly they made the decision together, are very much in sync, and communicated properly :thumbsup:

I hope someone gets on Kankan's ass for this. Putting them on the spot like that was shitty.
Yeah, hopefully someone really kicks Twintail Asshat-chan ass. Extra points for multiple people telling her that she ruined their relationship by forcing a public confession. It has to be a girl that does it though.

Some people seem to be forgetting that the reason they initially kept their relationship a secret was that they just wanted privacy to enjoy it better. There are zero rules about child actresses not being able to date. They're just both shy people. And of course, they're just in middle school, and Yamada is a well-known figure, so their peers would make a big deal about it, which they'd rather put off.

That said, going viral and turning into a minor celebrity did change things. There is now a LOT of attention on her. At least until the attention fades, and maybe even indefinitely to some degree, it's even possible that some weirdos could cause them issues, or even normal people incidentally taking a picture or video that blows up in a bad way somehow, and neither of them are unflappable when it comes to public pressure. So they made a smart decision to handle things this way.

I'm just at a loss of words. Didn't think I'll drop this manga after such a ridiculous chapter. Yeah sure let's support psychos who can't stand if their idol is having relationship with someone else. What's next? Maybe we should say that stalkers are doing right thing, why not

Yeah, it's due to the idol industry fans who are toxic af.

Although, for the individual entertainment companies, not all of them ban relationships. But in the end, coz a lot of the idol fans are crazy toxic, it's much safer for them to keep relationships a secret.

he should join her staff after they graduate school, he already has good manager instincts (plus they could spend extra time together)
Personally, I think being a writer would be better and interesting, she already has a manager that takes good care of her and then she can act in his novels.

AWWWWWWWWWW~~ cute

also @Mangamoz you are correct. If the word goes out she has a boyfriend, her life and kyo's life would be in problem
Yes and no. I really like how this chapter went, it fits them well and is in character + super cute.

The thing is, what you're thinking about never really was that much of a problem- that super heavy "my boyfriend might be stabbed and me stalked" mindset. This manga had more of a "I am not good enough for her and people will think less of her for associating with me + many otaku love solo performers".
It has been shoehorned it now and for a bit soooo, you are kinda right but also not really.
Something like that.

She isn't actually an idol, though, she's just a model and actress, so the extreme rules about idols don't quite apply to her (also your comment about 'solo performer' is kinda wrong since she isn't a performer at all, in the sense of performing on a stage for otaku- I'm not sure how you got to that conclusion when she's never done idol-style work).

But it's still the concerns of a rising celebrity whose agency feels she needs to have her options open. Also what you pointed out about insecurities.

The reason why she starts to love her career is because of ichikawa in the first place. Ichikawa also once state the important of her career to their relationship: "the yamada who isnt an idol is not the yamada i know".
Admittedly, she isn't actually an idol, she's a model and actress. She hasn't, nor do I expect her to do, idol performance work. She's not into song and dance nearly as much as she is into acting. Considering how she functions with 'singing' as depicted in the manga, she'd probably struggle to follow the actual lyrics and melody and make up random shit.

It's not really about supporting them, it's just acknowledging the reality of the entertainment industry, particularly in Japan. Also, she isn't actually an idol, just a model and actress.

One of the great things about this story has been how realistically it depicts things, and acknowledging things pertaining to Anna's celebrity status, both the good and the bad, is important to that.

Ngl, I really thought Sho Adachi was going to be undethronable as my most hated character in Bokuyaba. Such vulgar prick is too much for me to endure and no amount of reivindication is gonna change my POV about him.

But Kanna Andou has just proven me wrong in this Karte: Little unconsidered bitch!

The best way to face the situation would probably have been to neither confirm nor deny ("if we enter a relationship we want people to know about, we will say so; until then, we're as close as you see"). That was probably too much to come up with under that kind of pressure, sure, but i tend to think that's gonna wind up being their stance: "we're very close and obviously special to each other but we're not in a public relationship"...except to those who know better. (Which will soon include Adachi, I'm guessing. There's no way he got fooled. Confused, maybe.)
Sorry, but that would be a crass mistake.

Not confirm nor deny is precisely the same as saying "Let's the gossips and rumours run free, right to her agency!" And, as Ichikawa said, that only would make Andou decided to try once and again her stupid flash mob on Anna and Kyotaro until she gets what she wants, which will trigger even more gossips and rumours. What's worse, those rumours and gossips would become uncontrollable, to the point Ichikawa would become a bullying target for the Yamada's underclass girls fans, seriously risking her relationship as a couple (Page 8 shows you clearly two underclass girls clearly relieved by Yamada's rejection)

In other words: yours would be the worst possible option, even worse than the "accepting confession" choice.

ch as I hate Kankan for doing this, again, how come no one has shown irritation over Moeko? She was enjoying messing with the two. If I were Norio-sensei, I see some drama developing over this. What if Moeko is starting to develop feelings for Kyo and has been sowing discord by getting in the way? She did say during the summer retreat that she is jealous of how privileged Anna is and that people around her love her. Anna got an endorsement in a high school without the need for an entrance exam, and she even has a boyfriend. In fairness though, Moeko did hold back Kankan when Anna chased after Kyo. But still, I'm beginning to smell a fake friend here.
In Moeko's defense, she only had this thought of celebrating Andou's flash mob only for the sake of tease and annoy Kyotaro. As I said before, her romantic perspective is too shallow, so she is unable (or just undisposed) to think about the possible consequences of such acts. However, since she's so perceptive, she was quick to get that her inoffensive prank to upset Ichikawa developed into a romantic disaster and that she had commited a terrible mistake. Hence, that explains how fast she was in stopping Andou from chasing Yamada when she ran to follow Ichikawa.

So, no: Sekine has no intentions of betraying Anna. I'm a convinced one that Moeko could have developed feelings for Kyotaro, but she has very clear her friendship with Yamada is second to none. So whatever she feels is actually irrelevant at this point.
