@Darklight99
Ah, see, you supported my point without even realizing it! That's exactly what I meant by "how should we then score those great works."
We have only one scoring system, it is used in the same way regarding any title. You yourself just said that GTO is not flawless. Monster, one of the best works in its genre, you scored 8.5. Then how in the world by the same system we could give BokuYaba 8-9? It preposterous, and the more you think about what the scoring system implies, the more it is. I am not even saying right now that it is 1-2-3-4-5--10, not 5-10, heck, most people are so ignorant that they use only 7-10.
5 means average. Average means decent work with editors, some considerations and a level-headed author. If you liked it, it worked, and it's 5/10. 10/10 is basically an industry-impacting work that will be talked about for years after and has a high chance of becoming a classic. That's what's 10/10. 9/10 is basically as high as you can objectively go if the work is not your absolute favorite to the point when you fail at finding any actual flaws.
Even MAL has names next to numbers for a reason. 10 - Masterpiece, 9 - Great, 8 - Very Good, 7 - Good, etc.
By scoring BokuYaba as 9/10, you essentially saying that this is a better work than Monster, if we take your scoring.
And, actually, if you just keep in mind those things, I would never mind you giving it even 10/10. What I reprimand is using the scoring system not understanding how, why, and when it works. For those people they have 3 point or emoji scoring.
And we didn't even start to go into actual implications behind
average score that you set, which is supposed to be a mean number from art, characters, value, story, etc. scores.
Anyway, I think you get my point. Can I change the way things are? No. Would it stop me from always feeling like calling out people that essentially equal 7 to OK, 8 to Good, 9 to Liked it, and 10 to Actually enjoyed it? God, yes.
And before you could say, hey, this system is flawed, this way light-hearted works will almost always get lower scores: Yes, exactly, and because it is flawed, we have to be strict and responsible with it.
Like Churchill said: "
Indeed it has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.…"
This 10/10 scoring system is not the best, it's the best we could come up with to keep things at least somewhat objective.
