They're not actually in the same space, genius, same as with the bath extra previously. They're obviously on their own beds in their own places and chatting on the phone.

I realize it's not blatantly obvious that they're separated with a big line or anything, but is it really that hard to pay attention to the fact her speech bubble has an 'over the phone' design closer to his side, but is a legit speech bubble on her side?

A lot of people seem to struggle with subtleties when it comes to this series, it seems, which is a shame considering how much the narrative hinges on subtle shifts in behavior over time.
