Growth spurt? There's some tall genes in my family, and my eldest sister shot up around the same point. Shit gets real awkward when you're a fair bit taller than your peers at that age, too, I've gathered. As a guy, I also shot up through my teenage years.

Also, it's not like we haven't seen this before: Ch6.1 had a splash art on the first page showing her standing with her 5th grade classmates and she was almost twice their height. Not to mention the flashback extra (57.3) that showed that Ichikawa and Yamada had passed by each other around that age, too, and Ichikawa and his two friends were commenting on just how huge she was as she walked by. He didn't realize she was Yamada, though, when they showed him remembering that moment in the present. He just knew she was big and mysterious.

You just didn't know anyone from a tall family growing up, I assume. I am from a tall family- I AM freakishly tall. Puberty hits, and suddenly you're heads and shoulders above your classmates. Girls experience this earlier since they go through puberty sooner, on average.

The thing is, she is just really tall in general- she towers over her classmates in a 5th grade art piece from near the start of the story, Ch6.1, as well as a more recent Omake, 57.3, showing her with friends as she passes a younger Kyo and his friends from the same grade. As we see with her father, her family clearly has some tall genes, and I know a thing or two about having tall genes in a family.

But yeah, if she's got the genes to be tall, she'd shoot up pretty dramatically around that age, you're correct. Happened with my eldest sister.
