"following the cliche" what cliche??? Most of the time, they never go back.. the exception is when little kids go to the other worlds in anime, they lose the object that gives them power and learn moral lessons about enjoying their life more... but that's it...

That said, I think bending the money was worse than getting money through the lottery... it's not really cheating and it's not that wrong either. It doesn't do any harm and nobody would know...

Quite being stupid... why... why must MCs be stupid...

It's a pretty standard part of the heroe's journey going back thousands of years. I think calling it a cliche is pretty safe.

@ariessama Sep10trion is correct, in the U.S. damaged money is just marked for destruction and returned to the Treasury Dept., if it wasn't turned into a "Crushed Coin" trinket or used as some school's "track the dollar" project. Hell, a stack of quarters is used in shotguns in place of Slug shells.

Dang, 500 yen is a lot of money to just crush like that. You can buy like, a meal with that much. Why not use a 10 yen coin or something? Or even a 1 yen coin even would be impressive, even if it's aluminum.

@RamenRider The MC losing his powers at the end of the journey is not the norm. Usually, they keep the powers and live happily ever after...

Losing their powers is usually against the norm (the exception being when the powers come from a special item or, you know, the show's main cast is in elementary school or something...

In fact, normally, the characters are at their strongest at the end of the journey...

Why feel guilt for buying a winning ticket? Store doesn't loose anything. Company behind lottery wouldn't also (cause they print enough winning tickets to always get profit). I never understood people like that (they exist), kind of dumb.

@deathmailrock : traditionally the endings are either returning home, minus gained powers but sometimes with a boon to make their life easier, or stay there and keep the power and rewards.

But many of the classic portal fantasy (isekai is just a modern reskinjing) examples are ones where the MC returns home at the end.

Both options are present and have been there as valid endings from the start.
